Is anyone else feeling like this at the moment?😲

It is easy to fall in a heap after EOFY and just roll into another day, month, quarter and year. However, that would be a missed opportunity!

Don't forget the people across your business have worked hard too and this is a great opportunity to celebrate, engage and motivate. Here are a few things that have always worked well across my teams:🥳

1. Grab your leadership team together and whiteboard (in person or virtually) all the wins you have had over the last year. Make sure you capture across the Balance Scorecard spectrum of; People, Customers, Financials and Operations. 🏆

2. Write up the wins and share these with a great 'happy snap' of the team and whiteboard as well.📸

3. Stop. Breathe and capture what success will look like in 12 months' time and what you want to see on your board next year.🗓️

4. Sleep. Don't forget to get some sleep after EOFY.😴

When "I need to give people more time" isn't the answer.

The challenge of feeling under resourced with not enough hours in the day often results in leaders feeling that the only solution is to give more time. More time to everyone. More time they don't have.

This is true with many of my clients at the moment both in coaching and in leading project management implementation. However, giving everyone the same is not the answer. Situational leadership is knowing who and when to coach or delegate, who you need to 'lean in' with and who you can let 'run with it' is the key to time management, people development and successful ex*****on.

It's always handy to dust off the tried and tested Situational Leadership Model to refresh and check in if we are applying what is needed, to who and when.

When giraffes rest they face away from each other.

This formation ensures security and protection. Keeping a look out for danger from all sides. Giraffes are saying "I've got your back".

Leaders too must provide a safe environment for their team. Leadership is saying 'I've got your back'. Not just being there when things are going great. Leadership is about being there in the tough times. Leadership is about creating a team where every member has 'your back'.

Could Reverse Job Shadowing be an answer to the labor shortage in management & leadership? We have probably all been exposed to traditional job shadowing or had our team members do it – that is, when you ‘buddy up’ with someone to watch them do something to help you learn a new job or skill. T...

What does bare foot walking have to do with leadership?

I was amazed whilst trekking the Kokoda trail that many porters didn’t wear shows and seemed to trample easily across jagged river- beds and along mountain tracks. In my ignorance I thought that they must have such accustomed feet and did this without any discomfort. When I asked this question I was met with an obvious reply; “not tough feet, just no money for shoes”.

Strength to endure yes.

We should never assume people have the resources or the grit to do a task.

Ask and listen before you judge and assume.

What does being in a band have to do with leadership?

Conductors, music sheets, harmony....I know nothing about music but this is one analogy I have used time and time again in my coaching and mentoring.

Being a leader if much like being a conductor of a band. How do you lead your band to success?

Will you be my mentor?

I was asked this the other day by an industry colleague. It's easy to say yes and take another client. However, there are important points to consider before you lock in a new mentor. Here are a few from me:
1. Write down what you WANT and what you NEED from a mentor. Sometimes they are actually different.
2. Do your research. Ensure your perspective mentor has the skills and capabilities in the areas you are seeking to develop.
3. Request an introduction meeting first to ensure you are both the right fit for each other.
4. Ensure the mentor will be honest and provide constructive feedback, even if that makes you uncomfortable and challenges you.
5. If you aren’t the big boss then ask your manager if your organization will support (or at least partially support) you to access a mentor, many will. This can also highlight your dedication and commitment to progressing your career.

Is your business trying to do more with less?

Times are tough. Businesses are knocking on the door of the final quarter of FY23.

– Take a walk in someone else’s shoes

Soon your feed will be inundated for .

There will be countless images of women in nice outfits at a breakfast/luncheon with glasses of champagne being inspired by a female guest speaker.

But, that’s not for everyone. Wednesday will be just another day for many women (and men) who juggle business, family, home….and the rest. Regardless of gender. Sometimes we just have to take a walk in someone else’s shoes to gain a little understanding.

What shoes will you be wearing this Wednesday?
Who can guess which ones I will be wearing???

**Note: I’m making a call for having a day dedicated to middle aged people who run their own business post mid life crisis/ COVID reawakening. Who’s in???

Before you start to troll me about shooting monkey's. Hear me out.

Rather, read this article. It is an oldie, but a goodie. First written about in 1999 by Steven Covey.

Why do I post this? It seems now more than ever, my clients are struggling with time management, delegation and operational structure and rhthym. Here is an extract from a resource I regularly share.

Don't let people continually impose monkey's on you!

I have a problem with Ed Sheran.

He makes it all look way too easy. Whilst enjoying his concert I couldn’t help but be in absolute awe of that man's talent…..and linking it to my thoughts on Ed’s lessons for business;

1. Keep persisting and believing: Even Ed played in pubs where no one listened to him or cared. So, if you are starting out and doing the hard yards, seeking investors or customers, stay the course. Rewards will come.

2. Sometimes simplicity is what attract customer’s: One man in the middle of a stage with packed stadiums night after night. You don’t always need the bells and whistles to get the job done.

3. Build up the layers: What that man does to create music himself with the tools around him is unbelievable. He layers the beat, builds the loop and then adds his lyrics. Building a business is not unlike this. Layer by layer. Working together in harmony.

4. The best is yet to come: Ed mentioned that he loved Stevie Wonders response when asked “what was his best song of his career” and his response was “I haven’t written it yet”. Always strive to improve, learn and be better.

At 32 I would say this red-haired Englishman has done alright in business and life thus far! Thanks Ed for the lessons but, I still have a problem with you. How can you be THAT talented!!
