Did you know the connection between copper and Anlaby?
The nearby town of Kapunda is home to Australia’s oldest commercial mine, founded in 1842.
Copper was first discovered here by Captain Bagot’s youngest son, whilst out gathering wildflowers on the plain. The discovery was confirmed by Anlaby’s very own Francis Dutton, who then purchased the land from the Government with Captain Bagot for a mere £1.
Mining commenced soon after, and the influx of Cornish miners and their families helped shape Kapunda into the town we know today.

Last week we were invited to talk to the Years 5/6 at Kapunda Primary School on mining impacts on the environment and how companies must mitigate this. It was a great opportunity to explain how In Situ Copper Recovery is low footprint with minimal impact. We had some insightful questions from the 50 engaged students. Yesterday we hosted another tour from , the best of the brightest minds in graduate earth sciences from around Australia and this year one, from Morocco.
Always a pleasure to support the next generation in new low impact mining like InSituCopperRecovery, where mining doesn’t need to restrict land access.

In early September we commenced ground water conditioning at Kapunda, for the Site Environmental Lixiviant Trial (SELT). This process is to ensure that the solutions we are using to extract the copper match the existing groundwater ecosystems.
