Garland Lilies in bloom at The Pines

Keep an eye out for the beautiful Garland Lily (Calostemma purpureum) currently flowering in various spots around The Pines.

These striking native plants produce vibrant blooms through summer and are well adapted to our dry conditions, becoming dormant during drought.

Have you seen them flowering at The Pines yet?

HELP NEEDED! Two of our Pines committee volunteers will be pulling weeds this Sunday in our patch of recently planted trees to enable us to spread our donated mulch to conserve moisture.
Only two hours of your time from 9:30 to 11:30 would be much appreciated. It’s forecast to be cooler so if you can help, bring some gardening gloves, water bottle, hat, kneel pad & meet at the toilet block.

🌼 Tiny Star (Hypoxis glabella) 🌼

It’s wildflower season at The Pines, so keep your eyes peeled for this little beauty!

The Tiny Star is a small native lily with dark green, grass-like leaves and brilliant yellow star-shaped flowers — often just a few millimetres across. You’ll find it brightening up damp, rocky spots or open grassy spaces, usually from July to September.

🌱 Interesting to know:
👉The small fleshy roots of this plant are edible
👉After summer, it disappears underground, to re-sprout with the rain (a quiet symbol of resilience in our native landscape)

✨ A true hidden gem of the season — proof that some of nature’s best treasures come in tiny packages!

A pop of gold you might spot around The Pines Conservation Reserve right now — the Bulbine Lily! 🌿

This hardy native shows off bright yellow, star-shaped flowers from spring through summer, bringing a splash of colour to open bushland and rocky spots.

Fun fact: The plant’s underground corms have been used as bush tucker, known for their sweet, nutty flavour when roasted.

Keep an eye out for this little burst of sunshine next time you wander through The Pines Conservation Reserve!
