Macleay Valley Business Chamber Macleay Valley Business Chamber is a business support organisation that represents, informs and connects the local business community.

The Macleay has a diverse economy, boasting a unique blend of retail, rural, hospitality and tourism. The Chamber advocates on behalf of members to help protect business interests in the Macleay, promote a positive and strong economy and provide a secure future for the Macleay Valley. Macleay Valley Business Chamber is a voluntary organisation, led by an elected Executive Committee. The Executive maintains its strength and focus through the input of members.

SPREAD THE WORD!

There are just over five weeks to go, and the pieces of this enormous puzzle are starting to come together. The picture that's emerging? A cracker of a day!

Here's everything you need to know!

🔶 When is it: Saturday 28th November, between 3:30pm - 8:00pm

🔶 Where is it: Smith Street Kempsey, between the Belgrave St and the Forth St traffic lights. The street will be closed from 12:30pm.

🔶 What is it: A Christmas street festival, celebrating the businesses, people, talent, culture and community of the Macleay Valley.

🔶 Who's running this show: Macleay Valley Business Chamber.

🔶 What to expect on the day: A whole lot!!!

Musicians & Dancers: The Silver Band, Pinoy Kempsey Band, Kempsey Ukulele Club, Macleay Valley Pipes & Drums, Amos Morris, Kathryn Jones, Happy Dave, Elite Dance Company, Kempsey Line Dancers.

Markets: Lions, Pudding & Pumpkin Co, Karen's Blankets, Maura Luxford (local author), Lolly Lady, Baked Goods by Miss Brown, Dusty Rodeo & Co, Upcycled by Andi, Rhondala's Mandalas, Morgan's Motoring Merchandise, Kempsey Basketball Association, Beyond the Bell.

Activities: Pop-up art gallery with live painting, crochet & craft workshop, Whoville Christmas Photo Shoot, story time with Santa, stocking scavenger hunt, craft with Kempsey Scouts, face painting, pom-pom snowball fight, Pepperific parties, balloon animals, reptile show, and the RedPoint Christmas Car Show.

Festival shopping: Many of the stores along Smith St will be open for festival trading, with festival day specials. Spend $20 or more in one of these stores to enter the Xmas Fest prize draw, where you could win a $1000+ prize pack!

The Gallery of Trees: 30 Christmas trees decorated by local youth from schools and day care centres across the Macleay Valley.

Carols and Christmas lights: To wrap up the evening, we'll gather around the tree, sing a few carols, draw the winner of a $1000+ prize pack, and switch on the lights of the new Christmas tree.

We're adding more to the festival almost every day, so if you think it's already a lot....it's going to be even bigger! You won't want to miss this!

Living with persistent pain can make even the simplest parts of everyday life difficult. And when you're running a business or trying to get through a working day, there's not always the option to stop and rest.

The Pain Revolution Rural Outreach Tour is coming to Kempsey, bringing a free community event focused on better understanding persistent pain and what can be done to manage it.

Now in its eighth year, The Pain Revolution Rural Outreach Tour is a not for profit initiative that brings together health professionals, researchers and people with lived experience of chronic persistent pain. The riders cycle from Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie, stopping in each town along the way to hold a free community event, covering their own costs and fundraising to support pain education in regional communities.

There'll be expert talks, personal stories and interactive activities designed to help people better understand pain and explore different approaches to managing it.

For the many people in our business community who live with persistent pain, or know someone who does, this is an opportunity to access information and expertise right here in Kempsey.

A great night at The Stables in Gladstone for Business Across the Macleay!

We had around 35 people in the room for an evening of conversations, connections and a chance to hear from some of the people doing business across the Macleay.

We heard from Marty and Matt from TAFE NSW, who shared some of the flexible study and training options available to help people build their skills while juggling work and other commitments.

MVBC President Jarrod Lipscombe shared the Chamber's direction for the next three years, including our focus on increasing engagement, delivering more value to members and creating real change across the Valley.

And our panel of local business owners shared their stories of how they ended up in business, the experiences they've had along the way and, importantly, what keeps them doing it.

Of course, just as valuable were the conversations happening around the room, with plenty of opportunities to catch up, make new connections and exchange ideas.

Thank you to the familiar faces who continue to support our events, and a special thanks to those who joined us for the first time. We hope you enjoyed the evening, made a few new connections and took something useful away.

Another 15 MVBC members sticking with us for another year!

Following on from our last post, we're recognising another 15 local businesses that have renewed their Chamber membership.

With a retention rate above 85% this renewal season, it's encouraging to know that so many businesses continue to see value in being part of the Chamber.

Every membership helps us strengthen our voice when advocating for local business, build connections across the Macleay and keep working on projects that benefit our business community.

15 more MVBC members have signed on for another year!

July through September is our busiest period for membership renewals, and it's always a bit of a test for the Chamber.

While we're always pleased to welcome new members, it's just as important to see our existing members choose to stay. Our retention rate is one of the best measures of whether we're delivering real value to the businesses we represent.

So we're pretty happy (and a little relieved!) to report that we've come through this renewal season with a retention rate above 85%!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Head to the Slim Dusty Centre this Saturday for two great events.

Ahead of the Curve: The Spirit of Modern Quiltmaking | 11am

Nulla Nulla Regional Gallery invites you to the opening of Ahead of the Curve, featuring artworks from fifteen contemporary quilters who take on one of quilting's most rewarding challenges: the curve. Through bold colour, inventive techniques and striking compositions, the works show how today's makers are redefining quilting as a dynamic art form. The opening will be celebrated with a glass of bubbly and high tea, and everyone is welcome. Admission is FREE, with RSVPs requested for catering purposes. The exhibition runs until 5 December.
