⏰ Time worked = time paid.

If you’re doing work your employer requires you to do, you’re on paid time! This includes things like:
👯 arriving 15 minutes early for a mandatory ‘team huddle’
🛒 helping a last-minute customer after the store closes
🚚 staying after your shift ends because your boss needs you to wait for a delivery
🎓 doing required training (including online or at home)
⏳ staying back because the team is short-staffed.

There’s nothing peaceful about piece rates being used incorrectly!

A piece rate is where an employee gets paid by the piece (like for the amount cleaned, picked, packed, pruned or made) rather than an hourly rate. This can only happen if it’s allowed under your award or enterprise agreement.

For example, if you’re working as a cleaner in a hotel, the Hospitality Award doesn’t allow your employer to pay you piece rates (like per room or per square meter). This means you must be paid at least the minimum hourly rate as per the award (including any overtime, penalty rates or allowances that apply) for all the hours worked, regardless of how many rooms you clean per shift.

You can check your minimum hourly rates using our Pay Calculator here: https://calculate.fairwork.gov.au/findyouraward

A genuine redundancy is when your role is no longer required to be done by anyone AND your employer has followed any consultation requirements mentioned in your award or enterprise agreement.

If you’ve been made redundant and want to check what (if any) redundancy pay you’d be entitled to, use our free Notice and Redundancy Calculator: https://calculate.fairwork.gov.au/EndingEmployment

🌟HOT TIP 🌟
A hiring manager spends approx 3 mins on a Resume before deciding if you’re a good fit for the position or not. 🤔

We’re on the hunt for the best candidate for the vacancy and here’s one thing you can add to your Resume to ensure that you get a call…

For each company you worked for in the past, add a line about who the company is & what they do. 💡

Recruiters see hundreds of resumes and spend a fair amount of time googling what ‘xyz pty ltd’ actually does and why you were fabulous when working there. 🥱

Industry knowledge can be just as important as qualifications, skills and experience - highlight it!

You can thank me later 😎
