I’m seeing more posters and graphics created by artists to promote their workshops or exhibitions which have clearly been made using AI.

They are easy to spot these days; text and graphics carefully dotted around the image with perfectly polished illustrations or imagery. Often they have a retro or stereotypical hand-made feel.

Actual artists and creative people, with their own human talents and capabilities, producing AI slop to promote their human talents and capabilities.

Can they not see the irony and deep conflict of interest?

I can tell I’m affected by this because my heart is racing while I type this. Honestly, I’m gobsmacked that art societies, art educators, artists and designers are so blatantly using AI.

AI produces a polished, homogenised version of other people’s work. Stolen and scraped. And pretty soon, it will be regurgitating its own creative slop to produce more slop.

Dear amazing creative,

Please don’t use AI to create posters and graphics to promote your beautiful, thought-provoking, unique, hand-made work or events.

Create your own graphics using your own work. There are still so many tools you can use to make your posters or promo graphics (Canva being one of them) we managed pretty well before ChatGPT came along.

Don’t succumb to the novelty of AI to produce your graphics. It’s the very antithesis of what being a creative is about. You are better than a machine. We trust you more than a machine.

The message is in the medium. If the medium you’re using to promote your work is AI, then the message is instantly diminished and distrusted.

I’m so sad to see artists using AI to spew out boring, robot-created graphics that all look the same.

There’s a place for both AI and humans! I’m not a Luddite, however like all things in life, there’s a time and a place.

If we’re not careful, AI will threaten to take over.

In innovation to take the drudgery out of the human experience, yes AI has a place.

But it absolutely does not have a place in creativity and the finished outcomes of human creative endeavour.

Where do you draw the line with AI?

19/08/2026

If you use AI to create your graphics, images and photographs, you could inadvertently be culpable in the demise of our visual and cultural identities.

AI threatens our world’s visual cultural and identities. It could wipe out national, cultural, historical, geographic and individual identities by plagiarising, blending and simplifying.

One day, AI will be regurgitating its own output as the internet gets swamped by AI and buries human output.

Do we really want that? I think not.

I know it’s magical and thrilling to conjure an image from Chat GPT (I’ve tried it too) but those cheap thrills come at a cost.

Is it a price we’re willing to pay?

So I urge you to hire humans, buy from humans, be the human creator and kick AI generated imagery to the curb.

Time for a restorative cup of tea, after a relaxing morning life drawing at Studio 34 in Berry. Luckily I have some delicious biscuits left over from The Creative Business Summit!

This afternoon’s task is to write my debrief email to the summit attendees. With maybe another cup of tea (and biscuit!)

I could not have done this without the financial support and in-kind help from this year’s amazing sponsors of The Creative Business Hub.

A huge thank you for helping give creative education events a place on the calendar. It’s crucial we keep education and connection for artists, designers, photographers, makers, writer & creative thinkers a priority both locally and nationwide.

Please give this post some love ❤️ to help me say THANK YOU to them all - and check their socials too. Follow them, buy from them, check them out and visit their profiles & websites.

Ticket sales are now closed for this year. See you in 2027!
