Today is a good day for a planning day.

No 💄 make up, 🤝 meetings or 💥 mayhem!

And I'm having a really bad hair day - so it couldn't be better timing!

Just me, a notepad and my laptop. ☕

I love these days. For me, it's a chance to reconnect with my business and review what I'm building and for whom.

↳ Where can I create the most value?
↳ What makes sense to double down on?
↳ What should I be saying goodbye to?
↳ Is what I'm doing fulfilling to me and for others?

That's pretty much it.

Nothing over the top, just the space to let the ideas flow and capture the good ones.

How often do you give yourself the space for a planning day?
The space to step back from the day to day, reconnect and reset.

Recruitment firms are sitting on a 🤩 goldmine of data.
And most of it's going completely to waste.

🤔 Think about how many candidate and client conversations happen in your business every week.

There’s market intelligence 🐶 🦴 buried in every one of them.

↳ Why are candidates turning down your offers?
↳ Which competitors keep coming up?
↳ What are candidates starting to care more about?
↳ Which clients are giving you subtle signals they might be about to hire?
↳ Why are some recruiters converting better than others?

Until recently, getting useful answers from all of that would have meant manually trawling through calls, notes, emails, your ATS...

So mostly, we relied on gut feel.
Sometimes our gut is right.
Sometimes it’s telling us complete rubbish. 😥

One of the things I find really exciting about AI is we can now take all that messy, unstructured information we already have and find the patterns hiding inside it.

Suddenly your calls aren't just calls....
They're ℹ️ data.

And that data can help you:
↳ Spot opportunities
↳ Advise clients
↳ Create genuinely useful market intelligence
↳ And up your game.

How great having your own research department, with capabilities that would be unimaginable just a few short years ago.

📆 Next Monday (North America) / Tuesday (APAC) in AI Labs, Josh Kirkham from CoRecruit (formerly Quil) one of our AI mentors, is showing us some clever ways to turn candidate and client data into market intelligence to drive new opportunities.

❌ No shiny new tools or massive tech builds.
✅ Just getting a hell of a lot more value from the data you already have.

If you'd like to join us, pop me a DM and I'll send you the details.

🔢 Either way, why not start thinking about the data you’re already capturing in your business and what you can glean from it.

There’s probably far more value sitting there than you realise.

Use it to help you find the patterns, pull out the insights and turn what you already know into better decisions and better results.

🤖 Is there such a thing as AI turnkey solutions?

That's what we explore with AI and tech expert Leanne Courtney🦘and founder of Achieve in this week's episode of The Tech Savvy Recruiter.

Before launching Achieve, Leanne spent years inside the systems of Procom, one of North America's largest staffing firms, so she knows what a good rollout looks like!

👇 Leanne believes "a turnkey solution" doesn't exist.
Hear her thoughts on this one in the snippet below.

So where's the line between fitting AI into your workflow and just handing it the 🔑 keys?

Andrew Rodger and I chat through this and plenty more in Episode 47 of The Tech Savvy Recruiter with Leanne.

Here's what else we got into:
↳ The story of Meta's head of AI letting an agent loose in the infrastructure and coming back the next day to find it had deleted everything
↳ Why she runs outreach campaigns for 5-7 days, not the 35-day drip most agencies default to
↳ The client who freed up 46 hours a week across the team and still doesn't know what they're doing with it
↳ Why "AI cut my costs by $2.1 million" should set off alarm bells, not applause
↳ Fractional business system admins as the middle ground between "do it yourself" and hiring a full-time hire you don't need yet

🤖 Well this was a bit cheeky Andrew Rodger.

Andrew asked our The Tech Savvy Recruiter podcast guest Pranav Badami who just happens to be the co-founder of Stardex a recruitment ATS/CRM...

"Is the ATS finished?"

A slightly loaded question given Stardex 10x their user base in the last 12 months.

👇 But here's why we asked.

Every founder we speak to at the moment is building something. A little tool here. A workflow there. Something knocked together at 10pm because it's possible.

And the question underneath all that activity is "Do you still need one big system in the middle? Or are you better off with twenty small ones stitched together?"

Pranav's answer probably isn't what you'd expect from someone defending their very own category.🥊

Hear it in the snippet below.

Here's what else we got into:
↳ The question "Why isn't AI helping me" is almost always a data problem
↳ The four research agents that are critical to an open search
↳ What your firm knows about your market that Claude never will
↳ Whether it's safe to drop a CV into a paid AI tool (short version: yes, if it's set up properly)
↳ How one founder clawed back seven and a half hours a week for his team and still isn't sure what they're doing with it. 😂

Food for thought...
🤖 Nobody got into recruitment for the paperwork. Maybe they will for the AI?

The real data behind your quiet desk.

"The market's flat."

I've heard that from a lot of recruitment founders this year.

🤖 But then speak to anybody hiring for data centres and they’ve never been busier… it’s 🔥 exploding and in other sectors it’s the opposite.

Of course all markets are nuanced, but overall is the recruitment market flat?

I've been noodling through a few research pieces this week, because I’m curious about the sentiment around AI in relation to jobs and the reality of the market. 🤔

↳ I know, a big topic, but research can help ratify our gut feel.

↳ Some of the studies I took a look at are more anecdotal and others hold real authority.

↳ What surprised me, though, is that two of the most respected ones reached totally opposite conclusions.

👇 In case you're curious too…

What if every time you had a question about AI, you had a team of 🤖🤖🤖 AI experts just a click or two away?

👏 🕺 Well now you do.

😥 I got tired of watching recruitment founders drown in AI hype. Lots of opinions and sales demos - but who's really helping?

So I asked a few people I'd already watched do brilliant things to join me and make AI easier to understand and use.

And they did. 🙏 Bless 'em.

We created AI Labs for recruitment founders and kicked off a few weeks ago. And each week one of them takes something useful and walks through getting it working in your business, live.

And they're all in the community ready and waiting to answer your AI questions any time.

I'm super excited to welcome our newest AI mentor, the brilliant Fergus Cuming, Co-Founder Recbook who'll be doing a sesh on...

"Your branding with Claude design"

🤔 Picture this.....

🕺 You've landed a new client.
First brief's on its way, with the promise of many more.

😍 It's time to make an impression.

But your candidate submissions, props and terms go out a bit, well "so so".

🛠️ Time to fix that.

In this hands-on session, Fergus will help you build your own customised branding guidelines in Claude design so that every document looks and feels like it's been curated by a design agency.

Under 30 minutes and you'll be creating assets rivalling any "high-end" agency.

🌟 It's time to stand out.

Bring your Claude subscription along. Haven't got one? Come anyway. You'll still learn a ton and might be tempted to take the leap:)

I know Fergus has been working away in the background to make sure this workshop is exceptional for you:)

Love to see you there - DM for info:)

Nobody hires a coach to ignore the coaching.
But it happens all the time. Why?

Well...
🏃‍♂️‍➡️ Life gets busy
😲 Old habits dig their heels in
🥱 Resignation sets in

And suddenly your plans for change are dead in the water.

I had a couple of people join me this week and I already know they'll get brilliant results, because they're in action.

I just spoke to one of them who had already implemented ideas I shared on our intro call before they'd even "officially started".

Ask any coach, we 🩷 LOVE these people!

If you're bringing a coach into your world, the biggest gift you can give yourself is to commit to doing the work.

Sounds simple enough!

But all too often other "stuff" gets in the way.

I can look back over my 9 years coaching recruitment founders and easily point to the most successful.

↳ They listen
↳ They're open to doing things differently
↳ They trust the process, even when it's uncomfortable
↳ They show up and do the reps
↳ They ask for help when they're stuck
↳ They don't expect an overnight magic pill
↳ They keep going when it's tough

But most of all they're on the court, trying → failing → trying again → winning.

Building a better business comes with a few bruises - especially as you're "upgrading".

So if you're thinking about hiring a coach, just know it's easy to be excited on day one.

The real test is asking yourself are you ready to stay "all in" on the tough days too.

🥇 Because they're where your wins are hiding.

Don't you hate it when you're in the zone with AI and the "You've hit your usage limit" pops up! 😡

Most often that's token usage... and you might have noticed those limit messages becoming more frequent as we do more complex tasks with AI.

💥 Token consumption is exploding as we shift from asking AI questions to having AI do 💪 work on their behalf.

📈 Interestingly, Gartner's March 2026 analysis found enterprise token usage has grown roughly 13x since January 2025.

So we thought it was time for a conversation...

✨ This week in AI Labs, mentor Justin Blij will be explaining the Token economy.

"How Claude bills, thinks and degrades."
In plain English.

So your bills stay lower as your AI usage increases.

👉 Agentic workflows can consume far more tokens than traditional chat.

Anywhere from 5-30x more for typical tasks and up to 100x for complex, multistep agents. Ouch!

🚚 Pretend you're a truck driver for minute. You don't pay for how many trips you make. You pay for how much fuel you use.

Heavier load = more fuel.

Imagine an agency has an AI agent that:
↳ Reads a 10-page job brief
↳ Reviews 20 CVs
↳ Drafts outreach
↳ Writes interview summaries
↳ Updates the CRM.

If that workflow runs 200 times a week, trimming even 30% of the tokens could reduce AI costs by thousands of dollars per year without changing the output.

💲 That's why understanding token usage is becoming a real cost-saving skill for owners. Phew!

If token usage has been under your radar, hopefully this shows why it matters to your bottom line.

And, if you'd like to learn how to optimise your AI usage, join us in AI Labs next week and our friendly mentor Justin will set you straight:)

AI agents are popping up everywhere in recruitment right now. And most of us have no idea where to draw the line. 🤖

A year ago it was chatbots replying to emails. Now you've got full agents running bits of your prospecting and delivery without you lifting a finger.

Some agencies are going all in and letting AI run the show. Others are holding on tight, worried they'll lose the human touch that actually wins clients in the first place.

Our guest Shaun Henry had a good way of putting it. It's not about being hands off. It's about watching, guiding, and stepping in exactly when it counts.

So where does authenticity fit when AI's doing more of the heavy lifting? Andrew Rodger and I chat through this and plenty more in Episode 45 of The Tech Savvy Recruiter with Shaun Henry, co-founder of Floats.ai.

Two years since he was last on the show, and he's watched the hype cycles come and go, seen agencies burn cash on the wrong systems, and worked out what's actually real.

His take on the one thing AI still can't fake? That one stuck with us.

When I sold my second recruitment agency, I had absolutely no idea what was next.

The only thing I’d really worked out was the name, because I thought Recruitment Garage was pretty cool. (There’s a sweet story there for another day:)

A few friends kept saying “BK, you should be a coach.”

Maybe now was the moment?

So in 2017 I built my first program. No grand plan. Just close to 16 years in my own agencies and a head full of lessons and ideas to share with other founders.

Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to help well over 1,000 other brave souls who've started their own agencies chase down success and have some fun along the way.

Looking back, most of what I’ve created has come about from the hundreds of calls with owners sharing what's tripping them up.

🚩 2017: The Next Level Accelerator. “I’m struggling going from founder to CEO.”

🌱 2023: Growth Club. “I want to learn from peers and solve problems together.”

🎙️ 2023: The Tech Savvy Recruiter Podcast. “I don’t want to be left behind with AI/tech.”

📈 2024: The Scale Project. “I don’t just want to know what to do. I want help doing it.”

🤝 2026: The New Client Intensive. “Getting clients is getting harder.”

✨ THIS WEEK: AI labs. Newest chapter. “I want to get AI working in my business.”

👉 If you’d like to find out more about what we’re getting up to in Recruitment Garage and how we might be able to help you, my diary is always open for an intro. https://oncehub.com/introductorycallwithBK
