I've been asked about time blocking, and whilst it can be a very useful tool, I'm not for a one-size-fits-all approach, so when working with clients, I ask if it feels sustainable and if it feels like it will work for you. I want to support you to put systems and processes in place that set you up for success.

So, if setting blocks of time works for you because you want structure and will follow a clear plan of what is done and when, then it is a great strategy to explore. If you need to have more flexibility and benefit more from a task list that is prioritised so that when you are in go mode, you can jump in and work through as much as possible, then this can be explored.

It is all about finding what works best for you and how to create your version of success!

Let's talk Splose!

One of the newer systems but becoming very increasingly popular! As a business owner myself, I moved my team at Be Heard over to Splose and it has been a very happy transition for the team with its ease of use and how much it simplified our processes.

I have been super lucky to work with a number of other businesses who have moved to Splose, and whilst there are some features that aren't yet developed, it has so many features that it wins people over! The tags to sort and organise our clients, as well as the ease of invoicing and the two-way integration with Xero, are a few of my favourite aspects.

Whilst from the outside being a business owner looks great and all sunshine and rainbows, and there are many wonderful things like flexibility and being able to bring your ideas to life. It comes with riding the business owner rollercoaster, there are days when you don't want to do it anymore, when the stress feels all too much and when your ideas don't turn out as expected and that can be really tough to work through. But then you get to the upside of the rollercoaster and a new wave of motivation takes off!

I LOVE this quote!! Why? I have seen first-hand and heard many stories of workplaces where people cannot wait to leave, where turnover is high, and people dread going to work.

When I began growing the team at Be Heard Therapy & Supports it was incredibly important to me that my team felt seen, heard and valued. Where they could come to me with anything and know I would do whatever I could to help them succeed. I am so incredibly proud of the workplace culture I have created there, and the feedback I receive truly makes me light up!

I have learned so much in the journey of hiring and supporting a team, and I love that I can now share that knowledge with others.

My biggest takeaway is to listen - listen to what your team, what they need and how they are feeling. It honestly makes the world of difference.

For the first day of 2024 I wanted to take a moment to reflect and share.

2023 was quite the rollercoaster year!

Admin Sidekick launched, and I got to meet so many wonderful business owners and other VAs within this space! Supporting amazing allied health professionals with their admin, business consulting and social media! It has been so fun and rewarding!

On a personal note, I started my year off planning a surprise wedding and then got married in a very intimate ceremony in March followed by announcing our surprise at our engagement party that night, and then we enjoyed our first year living in regional Victoria.

***trigger warning - pregnancy loss***

While filled with so many wonderful things, this year also brought the biggest heartbreak that I could never have been prepared for. My hubby and I found out we were pregnant with our first baby but then had the biggest heartbreak when we lost our little angel baby at 8 weeks pregnant. No one can possibly describe the instant feeling of emptiness and brokenness when you are told there is no longer a heartbeat and that you will never get to meet your baby. No one can describe the mix of brokenness, emptiness, sadness, grief, guilt, fear for the future and numbness that hits you all at once. I wasn't prepared to not only grieve the loss of my first baby that I'll never get to meet but to grieve the loss of experiencing an innocent pregnancy again, one where I can feel excited and hopeful from day one. To grieve the version of yourself from before you knew this pain, the version you can't get back.

This is why I have been a bit MIA on our social media the last couple of months for 2023, I was focusing on healing. Running a business means you never fully get to switch off, but to make sure I could still keep things running smoothly for our clients, I had to prioritise, and our own social media didn't make the cut for a couple of months.

A huge thank you to my team and incredible clients over at Be Heard Therapy & Supports as well as all the wonderful Admin Sidekick clients for your support and kindness. I am so hugely grateful to you all and feel excited to be stepping into 2024 with you all!

Let the 2024 adventure begin!
