Rural employers know that recruiting talent is only half the battle. Retaining skilled workers long-term can be just as challenging.

Common relocation pressures include:
👉🏻Settling-in stress
👉🏻Limited local networks and community connections
👉🏻Partner employment challenges
👉🏻Navigating housing, schooling and local services
👉🏻Increased risk of early turnover when support is lacking

At Rural Workforce Australia, our Welcome Package is designed to reduce these pressures by supporting new workers and their families before, during and after arrival.

By helping people feel connected and supported from day one, we can assist employers to:
• Improve workforce retention
• Reduce settling-in challenges
• Enhance the employee experience
• Build stronger connections to the local community
• Support long-term workforce sustainability

Successful recruitment doesn’t end when a position is filled. Supporting people to settle well is a key part of helping them stay.

What are the benefits of the RWA Welcome Package for the Employer?

🤝 When new workforce arrive in a rural community, the difference between staying and leaving often comes down to how supported they feel outside of work.

🚚 At Rural Workforce Australia, our Welcome Package is designed to reduce relocation stress and help incoming workforce settle in faster- so employers can focus on what they do best.

🏡 From accommodation support and local connections to schooling, childcare, and everyday local knowledge, we help take the pressure off both the employee and the employer during the transition period.

📣 Having support outside the workplace allows new workforce to settle faster, feel connected sooner, and gives employers the ability to focus on work- knowing their new team member is supported.

✅ Because workforce retention starts long before the first day on the job.

Moving to a new community is about more than just starting a new job- it’s about feeling like you belong.

One of the most valuable parts of workforce retention is helping people build genuine connections within the community they now call home. 🤝

Recently, RWA in conjunction with the Kangaroo Island Medical Clinic held a meet and greet for Health, Allied-Health and Emergency Services Workforce on Kangaroo Island. A positive initiative helping new workforce to meet others, feel supported and become settled sooner.

When people feel connected — they stay longer, integrate more confidently and become part of the community, not just the workplace. ✅

At RWA, we believe strong communities play a vital role in attracting and retaining workforce across rural and regional areas.

If your organisation would like to learn more about how RWA can support incoming workforce on Kangaroo Island, we’d love to connect.

What our GP’s say about living and working on Kangaroo Island

“The community is fantastic and you get the opportunity to practice true generalist medicine. Between the GP Clinic, the ED and the operating theatre there’s a lot of variety”. RS; Locum, GP Anaesthetic.

Working across both the clinic and the hospital provides a diverse and rewarding scope of practice, including:

👉Exposure to a wide range of presentations in a rural setting, alongside senior clinicians.

👉Opportunities to broaden clinical skills and autonomy

👉Involvement in on-call hospital work, building confidence in acute care

👉A varied and dynamic workload that supports ongoing professional growth

As a rural employer, you have the recruitment covered but how does your retention look? 👀

Retention improves when people feel connected to their community. As an employer, settling new workforce into the community, isn’t necessarily something you have time for.

Rural Workforce Australia can help by:
👉🏻Supporting your incoming workforce with their ‘outside of work’ needs
👉🏻Being a 24/7 contact so that they feel supported throughout their relocation
👉🏻Connecting them with Community groups and individuals, creating a sense of belonging

This supports you, the employer by:
✔️ Taking care of the non-work related needs of your new workforce
✔️Allowing you to focus on your business
✔️Improving your workforce retention as your workforce feel supported and have real community connection
