I've never celebrated Father's Day. I've never really had a reason to, and this year is no different. For me, today will mostly be just another Sunday helping people on the side of the road.
But there is one man I think deserves to be recognised today.
Without him, Dixonâs Hazard Response probably wouldn't exist. Without him, I'd probably be carless, licence-less and maybe even jobless. Despite never having children of his own, he has been more of a father to me than I think he will ever realise.
I met him when I was 12 years old. He helped my mum get her car, her driver's licence and so much more. As I got older, that same support extended to me.
From the first time he called me "son", to every message, every phone call, every piece of advice and every hour he has stopped what he was doing to help me, often just so I could get back out there and help somebody else.
When something goes wrong with my ute, he's there. When I need advice, he's there. When I've needed someone in my corner, he's been there.
So while he spends Father's Day at work today, I'll spend part of mine remembering just how much of a positive impact one person can have on someone else's life.
He might not have any children of his own, but as far as I'm concerned, he still deserves to be recognised today.
Happy Father's Day, mate. Thank you for everything you've done for me, everything you've taught me and everything you continue to do. I probably don't say it enough, but I appreciate you more than you know.
