Does your BFM certificate expire? In short, no. However you need to maintain it by having regular medical checkups and it doesn’t hurt to do a refresher every few years as it does change …. For example “long” and “night” hours.

Registers are a simple and efficient way of keeping track and control of items such as glass and hard plastic, knives and chemicals in your production area. They are also useful for other areas of your business for things such as training and controlled documents.
Registers act as a point of reference and can be used as evidence during your audits to demonstrate you are meeting requirements.

Did you know? Log book / work diary hours are not just driving hours. If you leave your base and drive to a pick up location, and it takes one hour to load that you have assisted with, that needs to be counted in your log. However if you are in your (approved) sleeper cab waiting you don’t have to include it as work time however your overall hours for the day are still ticking.

Did you know that the word "regularly" appears in Safe Food Australia Edition 4, 29 times!

But how often is "regularly"? Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly?

"Regularly" should be set at a frequency that suits the task. For example, you would take out rubbish on a daily basis, however you might only need to calibrate your thermometer on a monthly basis, which is still regular as it is at a regular frequency appropriate to its use.

Having both grown up in the Lockyer Valley, agriculture and transport were Stephen and Kylie’s main lines of work as young adults and into maturity.

Stephen has worked in loadout, despatch and logistic operational roles for the past 24 years, mainly based in Brisbane. He has extensive knowledge of heavy commercial vehicles including load weights, plans and restrictions, compliance, the NHVR, BFM and advanced BFM, and is geographically gifted. Stephen has been operating a forklift during this time as well, and has met, worked with and learnt from some of the most well known people in the transport industry. A natural born leader, he makes decisions quickly and communicates clearly and effectively. Stephen has a Diploma in Project Management and years of on the job experience.

Kylie has seen agriculture quite literally from paddock to plate. Starting her working life on farms she has done everything from planting to harvesting to packing and onto truck driving, forklift work and delivering into the major supermarket DCs. Over the last few years Kylie has developed a love of quality control and quality assurance, working within the Brisbane Markets gaining as much knowledge as she can along the way. Kylie has a HR and forklift license, Certificate 3 in Supply Chain, is HACCP certified, and is an appointed Authorised Officer for DAFF.

Stephen and Kylie both have a keen eye for workplace health and safety and strive for ensuring that everyone gets home to their families while businesses are also protected from accidents which may cause financial strain.

Along with their busy careers, they share three children together. 16, 14 & 11 year olds. The two younger children are homeschooled while the oldest helps in the family fruit and vegetable business they run from home, delivering fresh fruit and vegetables throughout their community.

“We have a lot of knowledge between us when it comes to the produce and transport industry”, Kylie said. “We are looking into exactly how we can share that within the two industries together as a team”.

If you’re looking for support, guidance or advice within your refrigerated transport company, reaching out to Stephen is a great first step. When it comes to delivering a quality assurance program that goes above and beyond and that ticks all the boxes, Kylie is your person.
