Good morning Australia!

Those are happy east-facing 48YO Chardonnay vines loving the rising sun.

B Block - Original Chardonnay planting 1971-1974 to the west of Lake George, tacked in the Cullerin range.

0.5 hectares.
15 rows.
550 vines.
2.5 ton of fruit.
4 barriques.
1200 bottles.
Planted 12th Oct 2020.
At Cullarin Block 71.
740m.
Lake George. Excellent grape-growing site.
The warmest in the Canberra District GI by two degrees in winter. The spot for Malbec.

The cuttings came from its traditional French home base of Cahors, a town in Southwest France, the story tells.

The fruit goes to our Eden Road Canberra Malbec.

Getting to know more about our Head Winemaker Céline Rosseau!

We loved seeing this write up of Céline in last weekends Newcastle Herald Food and Wine paper.

"Born and Raised near Paris with family origins in the Loire Valley at Saumur, Céline came to Australia in 1996 after having studied microbiology a diploma in winemaking at Bordeaux Institute of Oenology and a master of winemaking and marketing in Champagne. In France she had jobs at Champagne Mumm, in top Bordeaux chateaux and Languedoc and, on coming to Australia, she worked in Margaret River at Pierro in 1996 and Hainault in the Perth Hills in 1997.

With 25 years of wine experience and a host of Chalkers Crossing show awards to her credit, Céline says she is now relishing making wines with "purity and finesse" reflecting the terroirs of Canberra, Tumbarumba, Hilltops and Gundagai regions.

Meet Cullarin Block 71 Subsoils.
.. the result of the meeting beetwen the ancient Lake George bed and the Cullerin Range.

From the lake, water erosion comes licking the bottom of the mountain, that creates pebbles and slate.

From the mountain, wind and rain erosion that comes rolling down the hill to the bed of the lake, that brings granite and quartz.

"That can only happen after millions of years of the water going like this and the mountain going like that... time after time.
That constant flow built up pile upon pile upon pile of rocks and sand, rocks and sand, rocks and sand...
..and that is what it is today. A very special place to grow grapes".
