Thank you all for being here since 2020. It’s been a pleasure seeing you all monthly, creating and refining a style that has now become a recognisable part of Sanctum. One of my key signature pieces is human foetal skulls, hundreds of which I’ve curated over the years.

I wanted to showcase as many of these pieces that Instagram would allow me to, alas I’ve been capped at 20.

I’d love your help getting a word out that Sanctum was the original creator of human foetal skull domes in Australia.

While flattering, it isn’t entirely wholesome to be approached by a number of artists within my local communities telling me that I have been an inspiration to them for many years ….. when they are replicating my original intellectual property regarding human foetal skulls.

Over the last 12 months I have seen at least three small Victorian oddities businesses replicating my work whilst also coming to my face at events and tell me that I am an inspiration to them… whilst replicating and benefiting financially by creating income from this plagiarism.

The other original concept are my anatomical heart domes, these particularly close to me as this is my area in academic expertise.

Is plagiarism really the highest form of flattery?
It just makes me feel sick..

We were all given the same prompt. The same materials. The same starting point.

And yet every piece is different.

Different hands, different ideas, different experiences, different interpretations. That is what makes creating alongside other people so bloody wonderful.

I think there is something to be said for remembering that the same applies outside of art, too. We are all working with different experiences, circumstances and perspectives, and none of us knows what another person is carrying.

We don’t have to agree. We don’t have to understand everything about each other. But we can choose to be kind. We can choose to be gentle. We can support one another without needing to make someone else smaller.

There is room for all of us.

Thank you to Karina Mills (Bewitched Oddities) for being a great friend and curating something that brings artists together rather than setting us against one another πŸ–€

What a big day on the tools after being sick this week! More Exsanguis Collection lovingly prepared for Oddities!

Exsanguis, Latin for β€œbloodless,” refers both to medical exsanguination and tales of pale, drained bodies that fuelled anti-vampiric hysteria in 18th–19th century in Eastern and Central Europe. These stories gave rise to apotropaic kits intended to ward against the undead. Exsanguis reimagines these historical relics and prepares them for display in your home.

✨ Sacred Decay ✨ Decomposition is not the end of life. It is the chemistry of rebirth.

As organisms die, their tissues become reservoirs of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients. Fungi move into this changing landscape, their microscopic hyphae threading through decaying matter and releasing enzymes that break complex tissues into simpler compounds.

The mushroom is simply the visible expression of this sacred process. It thrives because something else has died, transforming what remains into nutrients that can sustain new life.

Nothing truly disappears. Matter is dismantled, recycled and reorganised. The body becomes soil. Soil becomes nourishment. Nourishment becomes life.

Zeuxidia aurelius πŸŸ£πŸ”΅

One of Southeast Asia’s most spectacular butterflies, the Giant Saturn is renowned for the intense blue–violet iridescence across its wings.

Rather than being produced simply by pigment, much of this extraordinary colour is a result of structural colouration, whereby the structure of the wing scales interacts with light, producing different wavelengths depending on how the light strikes the surface and which angle the specimen is viewed.

I used to make these a while back, and I’m thinking about bringing them back. πŸ–€

Would you want to see these available at Oddities & Curiosities Expo 2026?

Hand-painted partial human skull replicas, mounted on ornate stands and finished with dried flowers. Each one is individually painted and arranged, so no two would be exactly the same.
