Strategisation: The art of mobilising people to implement a winning strategy

24/01/2022

Great strategy takes more than a day!

Way back in 1538 English Playwright John Heywood said “Rome was not built in a day”. You can be sure though, that every hour of every day there were bricks being laid – helping form the structure that would eventually become the centre of the Roman Empire.

This is how great strategy is built – block by block.

The Five Building Blocks of Great Strategy:
1/ Identify the Challenge
2/ Market & Business Analysis
3/ Issues & Opportunities Prioritisation
4/ Vision & Strategy Development & Alignment
5/ Implementation Plan

How to Mobilise People to Embrace Change

In order to mobilise the people in your organisation to embrace change, you must ensure that the vast majority of those responsible for implementing the strategy possess the following attributes:

👉 Belief
Do you believe that any change as a result of implementing the strategy is in your own, your colleagues, and the business’s best interest?
👉 Clarity
Do you have clarity on your role and understand how success will be evaluated?
👉 Capability
Do you feel you have the capabilities required to do the role you’re being asked to fill? If not, will you be supported to develop those capabilities?
👉 Desire to Act
Are you willing to take action in line with the guidelines and timing outlined by the agreed plan?
👉 Positivity
Will you demonstrate positive attitude and behaviour to support each other?

Successful mobilisation means that the vast majority of those responsible for implementing the strategy can answer YES to these.

Do you know what Leadership Skills are needed to Lead through Change?

When beginning the mobilisation process, it’s crucial for leaders to understand that all human beings are hardwired to resist change.

We have five times more negative neural networks than positive ones, so we have an inbuilt ‘negativity bias’. It means that we are more likely to focus on the negative aspects of change that drive our fear in the first instance.

The key is 🔑
Mobilisation can help address these barriers by creating a richness of dialogue across the organisation at an emotional and rational level.

A two-way communication between functions and different groups provide more collaborative and supportive environment. When transparency is applied it reduces internal resistance to change.

I revealed a step-by-step guide to achieving mobilisation that help every organization and teams to reach their highest potential.

👀 New Year, New Perspective

In this time that all around the world is battling with Covid-19, we wish a peaceful path through the transition of changes and relish the growth opportunities that will inevitably follow.

Everyone is adapting to change and have different reactions towards it.
Some enthusiastically embrace, some denies or stubbornly resist it.
This is critical to outstanding leadership.

We shared points to better understand how people respond when faced with CHANGE.
Managed well, change doesn't have to be turbulent and unsettling; it can be exciting & hopeful.

How does your team adapt to change?

💭 Have you taken some time to reflect this year?

We have made some reevaluation and by far the highlight hasn’t just been publishing our book ‘Strategisation’ - The Art of Implementing a Winning Strategy but being able to donate $5 from each book sale to Bicycles 4 Humanity 🚲.

Mobilisation is the central theme of the book and its also an underpinning driver at Bicycles 4 Humanity, where the focus is on alleviating poverty by providing sustainable transport in the form of a bicycle to improve basic mobility—in essence, mobilising communities by increasing their access to education, health care and social services.

Bicycles for Humanity - Melbourne (B4H) started in 2008 and is a completely volunteer-run, grassroots registered charity organisation with many of its chapters maintaining a strong link to BicycleEmpowerment Network, Namibia.

🚲 A container load of used bikes and parts is shipped and on arrival, locals are trained in mechanical and business skills, the container is then converted into an independent workshop or eBox to create ongoing and self-supporting local networks. There are now more than 30 established eBoxes in Namibia alone.

For more info on Bicycles 4 Humanity or to donate by purchasing our book, you can check it out here:

🎁 Have you got Santa’s favor?

We all know the story about Santa and his list of good, bad, naughty and nice kids and who will and won’t get presents. Imagine if Santa was real and he got to decide whose strategy would see the light of day and whose strategy would be forever consigned to a dusty filing cabinet.

How would your organisation’s strategy fare? Does it have what it takes to make it onto not just the ‘good’ list, but the ‘great’ list’?

We’ve shared a Five Pillar Strategy to get you out of the rut.

In ‘Strategisation’–The Art of Mobilising People to Implement a Winning Strategy, we cover all aspects of how to ensure that your strategy is successfully implemented.

As we start to head towards the end of the year, you can take this opportunity to reflect on the past 12months and re-evaluate things using the KISS approach.

This method is our equivalent to the Marie Condo way of decluttering our business - we KISS my way through the jumble!

✨ 𝐊EEP: Does it add value? Does it work?
✨ 𝐈MPROVE: Can it add more value? Work more efficiently?
✨ 𝐒TOP: Has it stopped adding value? Does it no longer work?
✨ 𝐒TART: What can we start doing to assist in delivering results? If it sounds simple, it’s coz it is!

For and other time-poor business people, spending time upfront to simplify and prioritise business activities can save a ton of time and stress in the long run.

If you’d like a copy of the 💋KISS template we use, please write KISS in the comments below. 👇

🤷‍♂️The question you’ve heard a thousand times.

Some take it literally but we believe it is a metaphor. 🤔

Let’s apply it to & set up …

✨ Successful strategy implementation lies in a leader’s ability to capture the hearts and minds of everybody in their organisation. When leaders ensure that frontline staff feel a sense of ownership, transformation success rates jump to 70%.

When beginning the process of mobilisation it’s important for leaders to understand that all human beings are hardwired to resist change.

We have five times more negative neural networks than positive ones, so we have an inbuilt ‘negativity bias’. It means that we are more likely to focus on the negative aspects of change that drive our fear in the first instance.
