Romsey an Historical Guide, published in 2020, explores the built form and the rich historic fabric of the Romsey business district. Gazetted in 1861, the township celebrated 160 years in 2021. It is striking that the layout of the town’s business district remains very much as it was when first established. This book was the first to have been written about the township and district in over 15 years. Today, Romsey is experiencing population growth, and our towns are attracting new residents. This new book showcases the township, its history and heritage and is a major tourist destination in the Macedon Ranges.

Romsey an Historical Guide identifies fifty-five buildings and landmarks in Romsey and documents the history of the families behind its many businesses.

In its 150th year, the Victorian Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (VACRO), formerly the Prisoners' Aid Society of Victoria, can be proud of its rich and inspiring history. The high ideals of the visionary prominent men who joined forces to change the trajectory of prison leavers and reduce the likelihood of reoffending, prevail. In 1872 these men were united in their understanding that imprisonment alone was not the answer to reducing crime in society; they understood that a broader approach was needed. In 2022, it is clear that these high ideals, together with compassion, expertise, research and understanding, continue to guide this unique organisation. VACRO will celebrate its anniversary Friday 30 September 2022 at the Assembly Hall, Collins Street.

On Sunday 11 June I gave a talk to the La Trobe Society, titled 'Surveying the Landscape: Robert Russell, Robert Hoddle and the First Plan of Melbourne'.

The following abstract summarises the talk:

Robert Russell and Robert Hoddle’s names are inextricably linked as historians have asked: who drew the first plan and layout of Melbourne’s grid of streets?

In my talk, I considered the issues at stake in the fledgling settlement of Port Phillip in 1836-37 and explored the reasons doubt was ever cast on the identity of the creator of the early plans of Melbourne. Did Russell or Hoddle create the familiar rectilinear grid of Melbourne's CBD?
