He came to return cans. He found a job, and a community ♻️
When Mason first visited our Waverley Recycle Rewards depot, he was simply returning his own cans. Expressing an interest in working with us seemed like a small step at the time, but it soon opened the door to something much bigger 🙌
Today, Mason is part of our Waverley team, helping process around 33,000 containers every day 💪
But for Mason, the role is about much more than work. It has given him friendships, connection and regular interaction with customers 🤝
“This depot has been great. I had the opportunity to bring my cans in, and that’s where it all started. I have made friends, I enjoy interacting with customers, and I feel like I am part of a team.” 😊

City Mission is incredibly proud to operate the Waverley and Somerset depots as part of our broader Social Enterprise operations, alongside Mission Shops and Resale Centres. Together, they create environmental, economic and social value while helping build a stronger and more sustainable Mission 💚
The income generated through these operations helps strengthen our ability to respond as more Tasmanians seek support with food, clothing, bills, housing and other essentials 💙
