A recent tree assessment:
A homeowner contacted me because they were concerned about the multiple stems on this mature Turpentine (Syncarpia glomulifera) growing close to neighbouring properties.
While multiple stems are sometimes considered a defect, context matters.
This growth form is common in Turpentines, both here and across many other sites I’ve inspected. Many of the surrounding trees had developed in the same way, with no evidence of associated failures.
The tree was also growing in a relatively sheltered position.
After assessing the tree, my recommendation was simple:
No pruning. No removal. No action required.
Tree assessment isn’t just about identifying defects. It’s about understanding the species, the site, and what is normal for that tree.
