We can almost taste spring, it’s so close! And a little hint of it is peeking out of our kitchen with this dish.

Our new whole baked flounder is served with a rich prawn bisque, pickled zucchini, confit tomatoes and fresh basil. Delicate, flaky fish meets the depth of the bisque, while the zucchini brings just enough brightness and acidity to keep everything feeling fresh and vibrant.

Our Old Apple Block Chardonnay feels like the perfect match.

This Chardonnay with citrus, nectarine, white peach, crisp acidity, subtle oak and a mineral edge cuts beautifully through the richness of the bisque while complementing the sweetness of the fish.

This dish really feels like the last days of winter and the first hint of spring, all on one plate.

There’s more to Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyard than long lunches.

Tucked away beside our restaurant is our little tasting room.
With room for just eight guests at a time, wine tasting at MLRV is a deliberately intimate experience.

We love it that way, because it means our tastings can be a bit more personal and a lot more than simply pouring a few wines and sending you on your way.

We start by taking you outside to overlook the vineyard, chatting about Lenswood, our cool climate and sloping vines, and how where our grapes are grown has such a big influence on what eventually ends up in your glass.

Then comes the fun part!

Estate Tasting — $25pp
Five MLRV wines, tasted alongside canapés.

Premium Tasting — $50pp
A selection of our premium wines, also paired with canapés.

And the canapés aren’t just because we like feeding people (although we definitely do). They’re part of the tasting, so you can actually experience how food can completely change the way a wine tastes. How it brings out different flavours and characteristics you might not have noticed before.

You don’t need to know a lot about wine either. Come with questions, come because you want to learn something, or just come because spending an afternoon drinking wine in the Adelaide Hills sounds pretty good.

Our tasting room only seats eight, so bookings are definitely recommended.

There’s something pretty special about making wine in Lenswood.

Cool, elevated and tucked high in the Adelaide Hills, it’s a place particularly suited to varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and one we’re incredibly proud to call home.

So we were rather pleased to open the newly released 2027 Halliday Wine Companion and see nine of our wines awarded 92 points or higher, including three wines receiving 95 points.

We’ll share a little more about each of those wines over the coming weeks, but we thought we’d begin with one that has been a very long time in the making.

Our 2016 Late Disgorged Méthode Traditionelle Pinot Noir Chardonnay which received 95 points.

Crafted from pristine estate-grown Lenswood fruit. 55% Pinot Noir, 45% Chardonnay, this wine spent an extraordinary 110 months on lees, building profound savoury complexity while retaining remarkable freshness. Layers of brioche, biscuit, and toffee unfold seamlessly alongside vibrant notes of crunchy green apple and delicate red fruits. The Pinot Noir lends beautiful palate weight and finesse, while a fine, persistent bead carries the wine across the palate with grace. Hints of oyster shell and sea spray add a whisper of savoury intrigue.

Recognition like this is never the work of one person. It begins in the vineyard and continues through years of careful winemaking, patience and plenty of hands along the way.

A huge thank you to the Halliday Wine Companion tasting team
for taking the time to taste, review and champion Australian wine.

As for the other two 95 point wines?

We’ll introduce you to those soon.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL PINOT NOIR DAY!

Pinot Noir has its roots in Burgundy, France, where it has been grown for centuries and earned a reputation as one of the world’s most captivating — and notoriously temperamental — grape varieties.

Thin skinned and sensitive to its surroundings, Pinot Noir doesn’t thrive just anywhere. It prefers a cool climate and a long, gentle growing season, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly while retaining the natural acidity, fragrance and delicacy that make the variety so distinctive.

The Hills is one of Australia’s coolest and most elevated wine regions and are now recognised as South Australia’s leading region for Pinot Noir. Within the Hills, Lenswood is particularly special. Its elevation, cool nights and sloping vineyards create conditions that allow Pinot to develop slowly, producing wines with beautiful perfume, vibrant fruit and freshness.

Here at Mt Lofty Ranges Vineyard, our Lenswood vineyard sits on a steep slope around 550 metres above sea level. Originally an apple orchard, vines were planted here in 1994, with Pinot Noir finding a natural home amongst the sandy clay loam soils, quartz, sandstone and ironstone beneath.

It’s a variety that speaks particularly clearly of where it is grown — which is perhaps why we love it so much.

So, for International Pinot Noir Day, we think there’s only one appropriate way to celebrate:

Open a bottle of Pinot, preferably from Lenswood.

Some of our favourite locals don’t need a reservation.

Kookaburras keeping watch from the Sydney apple gum, kangaroos lounging amongst the vines and galahs dropping by for a catch-up. These are just a few of the neighbours we’re lucky enough to share this little pocket of the Adelaide Hills with.

They visit us most days (although they’re yet to order a glass of wine), and we never really get tired of seeing them.
