18 new and updated WHS Codes of Practice have been released in NSW since December 2025.

Most businesses will immediately ask: "What do we need to update?"

Fair question.

But perhaps the better question is: Is your safety system still fit for purpose?

Some of these Codes are replacing guidance that has been around for decades. Workplaces have changed significantly since then, but many businesses are still relying on systems that have evolved through minor document updates rather than genuine review.

From 1 July 2026, organisations will be required to comply with applicable Codes of Practice or demonstrate an equivalent or higher standard of health and safety.

The changes are important.

But what they really provide is an opportunity to stop and ask whether your systems, procedures and controls still reflect the realities of the work being performed today.

We've put together a short article exploring why most businesses may be asking the wrong question.

Proud moment for Red Insight.

We’re excited to be named finalists in the 2026 Australian Trades Small Business Champion Awards.

Our first time as finalists in the Trades category, and a pretty special milestone for our small Hunter-based WHS team.

Huge thanks to our clients, partners, and crews who trust us every day.

One thing many people probably don’t realise about the Best WHS Management System (SME) award we received last week is that a huge part of the submission was not about software, dashboards or polished documentation.

It was about evolution.

Over the past 14 years, our WHS systems have evolved through real-world implementation across high-risk industries throughout the Hunter Valley.

And honestly, a lot of that evolution came from feedback.

From seeing what actually worked operationally and what simply created more complexity.

Early on, like many businesses in the safety industry, we built systems that were too complicated.

Too many forms. Too much duplication. Too difficult to apply consistently when work became busy, conditions changed or pressure increased.

Over time, we learned that if a system is too difficult to use in real operational environments, people will either work around it or disengage from it entirely.

That changed the way we approached safety systems.

A lot of what we’ve built since has focused on making systems more practical, more usable and easier to apply without losing governance, accountability or compliance.

We’ve also had the privilege of seeing many businesses we’ve worked alongside achieve incredible outcomes of their own over the years, including ISO certification, industry award recognition and major project opportunities.

Because if it doesn’t work on site, it doesn’t work.

We shared a short article this week about the lessons that shaped our approach over the years: https://redinsight.com.au/best-whs-management-system-hunter-valley/

Tonight, we were incredibly proud to win Best WHS Management System (SME) at the 2026 Hunter Safety Awards.

What made it even more special was receiving the award from the one and only Sarah-Jane Dunford, who established the awards 10 years ago.

A huge thank you to Sarah-Jane, Allana and the entire Hunter Safety Awards team for everything you do to continue raising the standard of safety across our industries.

And congratulations to all finalists and winners tonight. Some incredible work being recognised.

People going home safe.

This is where you find out if your safety actually works.

Not in the documents. Not in the meetings.

Out here.

Safety has a cost.
Incidents have consequences. Real consequences.

It’s fine…right up until it isn’t.

Celebrating those who make sure people go home safe at the Hunter Safety Awards this Friday.

Uncle Ernie made the trip out from Canada! James Brown…ready for anything.

Between them, they’re missing a few fingers and probably a bit of patience too.

But that usually comes from a lifetime of actually doing the work, not talking about it.

At the Australian Small Business Champion Awards 2026 with two blokes who’ve earned every bit of where they stand.

Good luck tonight!

You can fake a lot in safety.

Pretty documents.
Morning toolbox talks.
Everyone nodding along.

Even this photo.

Monica’s not interested in any of that. Her heart’s in what actually happens on site.

Because that’s where it either works… or it doesn’t.

Need someone who’ll tell you how it really is? Monica’s your person.

We’ve been named a Finalist in the 2026 Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards (Trades & Industry).

After taking out a win last year, being recognised again means a lot.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about paperwork or policies.
It’s about making sure people get home safe, and families across the Hunter get their loved ones back.

Proud to work alongside businesses who take that seriously every day.

See you at the Gala.
