Schubert Estate

Schubert Estate A James Halliday 5 black star winery, producing premium Viognier and Shiraz from estate-grown grapes. Both the tasting and accommodation can be booked online.

Earlier this year, Schubert Estate completed the transformation of its cellar door into a bespoke Wine Room featuring thoughtful designs with impeccable detail. Located on Roennfeldt Road, Schubert Estate’s freshly renovated residence represents a new chapter for the brand and an exciting wine destination on Barossa’s finest red wine address. The Schubert Estate story began in the 1890s when Georg

e Johann Christian Schubert and his family migrated from Prussia and settled in the Barossa Valley sub-region of Marananga. The family established a vineyard on the property in 1915, and since this time, the focus has been premium wine production. The elevated location and undulating geography make it an ideal environment for growing high-quality wine grapes. Schubert Estate vineyard area is 12 hectares, and the vines are separated into five vineyard blocks, differentiated by different soil profiles, elevation, and topography. Next door to the Wine Room is Schubert Estate’s newly refurbished three-bedroom heritage residence, offering relaxed and self-contained luxury accommodationfor up to six people. It’s an exciting next chapter for Schubert Estate that will cement a premium positioning for the brand. To learn more or book your next Barossa experience, visit www.schubertestate.com.

From dormancy to new beginnings.

Winter is slowly releasing its hold, and spring is beginning to reveal itself across the vineyard.

Tiny buds are bursting from the vines, reaching for the first warmth and light of the new season.

A quiet reminder that nature knows exactly when it’s time to begin again. 🍇

It all begins with the soil. 🍇
Every block across our Roennfeldt Road vineyard tells its own story. From the subtle shifts in elevation to the unique clay and loam profiles beneath the vines, our single-vineyard Shiraz reflects a true sense of place here in Marananga.
Whether you’re opening a bottle of The Hatchling or cellaring The Goose-Yard Block , you’re tasting a piece of the Barossa crafted with patience and precision.

What goes into building structure and finesse in the glass? 🍷
After malolactic fermentation brings that subtle creaminess and softens the acidity, it’s time for racking—gently transferring the w**e off its lees and returning it to selected French oak barriques.
Each transfer is deliberate:
✔️ Assessing the w**e’s evolving personality
✔️ Introducing measured aeration to knit texture and tannins
✔️ Matching the w**e to the exact barrel for its next stage of aging
It’s a slow, hands-on craft—and the key to creating w**es of true depth and elegance.

One of our favourite topics: soil.

Blocks 1 & 3 are sited in sandy clay loams layered over permeable clays and soil carbonates with highly weathered ancient stone below. Good water holding capacity and moderate drainage promotes root growth supporting healthy vines and generous canopies. Attentive pruning reduces bunch count on each vine concentrating flavour delivery and yielding plump fruit bursting with the bold character of the classic Schubert Estate style.

Nestled amongst Blocks 1 & 3 is a small section of Viognier which yields a textural dry white, a deliciously sweet dessert w**e and, in quiet servitude to our impressively flavoured Shiraz, plays a pivotal role in crafting our most voluptuous red w**e.

2022 Lone Goose Shiraz Viognier tells this story.

It's been awhile since we uttered the words "above average rainfall", but June gave us the gift that has pushed moisture deep into the soil profile.

Our soil probes are currently recording moisture down to 70cm, with luck we’ll hit that magic 100cm point and a full soil moisture profile, which would put us right where we want to be at the start of every growing season. 🌱🌧️

The transition from Autmn to Winter.
As our vines ease into dormancy they're not just dropping leaf to enable pruning to begin.

The vines slumber is earmarked through the transfer of carbohydrate from shoots to roots and the synthesizing of a biological ‘anti-freeze’ which negates potential damage by frosty conditions to enable them to burst back to life when conditions warm, enabling another season to commence.

Mother nature is always up to something.
