It’s a normal day if you work in NT, QLD, SA, TAS or VIC.

Reminder: Saturday 25 April is a public holiday in all states and territories.

New PHs incoming!

Last year, we introduced new laws to give WA two new public holidays.

Under the proposed laws, WA will get two new public holidays from 2028 - Show Day and Easter Saturday - while dates for three other public holidays will be moved.

These changes will align WA's public holidays with other States, and help ensure WA remains the best place in the world to live and do business.

Casual employees have different entitlements to permanent staff, and from 26 August 2025, the employee choice pathway will allow eligible casuals in small businesses to request permanent employment.

Changes to the rules for casual employees wanting to become permanent started on 26 February 2025.

Eligible casuals can notify their employer in writing of their intention to change to permanent employment. An employer can only refuse the notice for certain reasons. This is referred to as the ‘employee choice pathway’.

You need to be compensated for all the work you’re required to do, but it doesn’t always need to be a penalty rate for working overtime.

Some awards and enterprise agreements let you agree with your employer to take paid time off instead of being paid overtime.
