Being a parent doesnt need to be like this. Yesturday we sat down as a family and discussed openly what each persons expectations and requirements were of each other for the coming year. With a 16 year old daughter about to commence year 11 at school, its important to understand what is required of her but just as importantly, by her. What do we need as parents of her to contribute to the running of the home and what she needs of us as parents. Clear communication is always the key to successful relationships and no relationship is more important than between a parent and child. It is dangerous to assume you know what your child needs. Never be afraid, or too busy to ask.

This has got to stop! Family violence is the gravest human rights abuse in Australia today and needs to be addressed in every home, workplace, sporting club and open space. This is not the responsibility of governments and community organizations, it is everyone's responsibility. Take a stand now, look at your own beliefs and actions. What message are you sending the people around you? What behaviors are you role modeling to those who look up to you? Do you condone violence with your silence or do you speak up for those who can't? If we leave to the victims/survivors to fight back this scourge will never leave us. I implore everyone to make a stand now. We must come together on this issue because a whole of community effort and commitment is the only way to defeat this national disgrace. There are many ways to make a stand without putting yourself in danger. These can be found on the White Ribbon website or simply contact me. Enough is enough, lets stop this now.

What an incredibly powerful song by an amazing artist. Any parent that doesn't get emotional watching this needs to check their pulse. This song beautifuly conveys the important role a father plays in the raising of a daughter both in the positive and negative aspects. To all fathers out there please understand how important your behaviour is to your children and especially daughters. Ask yourself what message are you sending your child(ren) and do you need to do anything different.

If you want to improve any relationship, the first thing to do is stop assuming. When you assume, you make a fool of yourself and the other person. Stop assuming and start communicating. Be honest in what you want, need and desire whilst considering the needs of the other person. If you look for a win/win, more often than not you will get what you need.
