Dear resident,
I would like to invite you to a special community ceremony on ANZAC Day to unveil the commemorative plaque in honour of Harold Frederick Alderton.
The idea to establish this plaque came from a local Colebee resident, keen to recognise Mr Aldertonโs service. Working with Blacktown City Council, I was pleased to support this important initiative too. It is fitting that Alderton Drive, where the ceremony will take place, has been named in his honour โ ensuring his legacy remains a lasting part of our community.
Harold Alderton was born in Riverstone and worked as a farmer prior to his enlistment. He signed up for service on 29 September 1916 at the age of 25 becoming a Private in the 53rd Battalion, 8th Reinforcement. Harold embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Suevic on 11 November 1916 and served our country with distinction during the First World War, returning to Australia on 4 July 1919.
Details of the ceremony are below:
Date: Saturday, 25 April 2026
Time: 7:30am
Location: Corner of Alderton Drive and Victory Road, Colebee NSW 2761
The ceremony will include the unveiling of the plaque, laying of wreaths, a bugle call, and the National Anthem. The Mayor of Blacktown City Council, Brad Bunting and I would love to invite you to this special event to honour Harold Aldertonโs service, creating a Colebee landmark that will reflect on the sacrifices made by so many.
Yours sincerely,
Ed Husic MP
