This Friday, 11 September, we’re proud to join the team at 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 for their 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Behind every great music event are people juggling creativity, business, family... and real life.

Last week, I attended the launch of the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗚𝗼𝘀𝘀𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 at the beautiful 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀.

One conversation stayed with me.

Jane, better known as Moody Tiger Pants, shared that she'd recently been confirming the details of a performance with a promoter while holding her four-year-old daughter on her hip, who had just thrown up!

It was such a wonderfully honest glimpse into the life behind the artist and a reminder that behind every musician, business owner, promoter and event organiser is a whole human story.

It was also wonderful to reconnect with so many familiar faces, including members of our Light Up family - 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘆, 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘀, 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗷𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗷, 𝗝𝗮𝘆𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝗟𝗶𝗲𝘀𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗵 𝗔𝗠, 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿, 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮, 𝗠𝗲𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲, who provided the extra support we needed on the day. Being busy doesn’t always mean your business is moving forward.

If you need more work, make sure you’re protecting time for the things that create opportunities — following up, having conversations, reconnecting and asking for referrals.

You don’t need to do something complicated.

Just create movement. 👏

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵.

But for one tradie, a single client represented around 𝟲𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲.

When that client disappeared, the pressure was huge.

Instead of simply chasing more work, we looked at where his time was going.

He started prioritising activities that could create new opportunities — and stopped allowing distractions to take over his day.

The result?

𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲.

Your biggest customer should be valuable.

They shouldn't be your entire business.

A tradie lost the client responsible for around 60% of his revenue.

The financial pressure affected his family, and his confidence took a hit.

Telling him to work harder was not the answer.

We looked at how he was using the extra time in his day and helped him create a rhythm around income-generating activities.

He followed up opportunities, started more sales conversations and said no to distractions.

The result was greater clarity, renewed confidence and an improvement in his bottom line.

The lesson:

Do not allow one customer to become the business.

And when you need more income, focus your daily activity on creating it.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱.

Why?

Because it doesn't always shout the loudest.

A customer needs an answer → urgent.
An email arrives → urgent.
A small problem appears → urgent.

But following up that quote?

Asking for the referral?

Calling the prospect?

Those can wait.

Until tomorrow.

Then tomorrow becomes next week.

And suddenly you're wondering why the pipeline feels quiet.

If you need more work, make income-generating activity part of the daily routine.

𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆.

Make the call.
Have the conversation.
Follow up the quote.
Ask for the referral.
Reconnect with a previous customer.

You don't need to spend every minute selling.

You just need to make sure you're spending 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Ask yourself before starting your next task:

Seven years ago, I made the move to the coast.

And one of the greatest gifts has been the people I’ve met along the way.

I built genuine friendships, found community, and connected with people who have become a really important part of my life. People I swim with, laugh with, learn from and share life with.

People from all walks of life, with different backgrounds, experiences and stories. What an incredibly rich community we have here.

It’s funny… sometimes we think we’re moving somewhere for the lifestyle, the location or a change of pace.

That wasn’t the case for me.

But what makes a place feel like home is the people.

Seven years on, I’m incredibly grateful I made that move.

My life is richer, my connections are deeper, and my soul feels fuller because of the people who have come into my life along the way.

And I wouldn’t change a thing. ❤️

A full calendar does not automatically create stronger sales or better profit.

Some tasks maintain the business.

Others move it forward.

When you need more work, complete five income-generating activities every day.

Follow up the quote. Contact the previous customer. Ask for the referral. Call the prospect. Have the conversation.
