School holidays at the winery usually mean one thing...

Free labour. 😄

When a vintage breakdown left Mark spending the day pulling apart the press, he called in a specialist mechanic to help.

Enter Archie.

Turns out being small has its advantages when you're trying to squeeze inside a wine press to undo bolts and help with repairs.

What started as a school holiday adventure quickly turned into a hands-on lesson in winery mechanics, problem solving and getting your hands dirty.

By the end of the day, Archie had earned himself some valuable experience and Mark reckons he's now fully qualified to handle any future press repairs.

At least that's the plan.

We're not entirely sure Archie agrees.

Most people think things slow down when vintage finishes.

Not quite.

Winter in the winery is less about grapes and more about decisions.

Barrels need topping.
Wines need blending.
Tanks need cleaning.
Bottling plans need finalising.
New releases need preparing.

The forklifts might be moving a little slower, but the hands behind the scenes certainly aren't.

While the vineyard takes a well-earned breath, we're already hard at work shaping the wines you'll be drinking in the months and years ahead.

Different season. Same mission.

Good wine doesn't take winters off.

Not every vintage challenge comes from the vineyard...

This year, our press got an absolute hiding.

After a record-breaking 80-tonne press day that stretched close to 24 hours, we discovered the tiniest hole in the press bladder. Tiny hole. Big problem.

The next day wasn't spent making wine.

It was spent scratching our heads, pulling the machine apart, hunting down repair materials and performing what can only be described as winery surgery.

A custom patch, plenty of heat, plenty of patience, and a few crossed fingers later... we were back in business.

Vintage might be all about grapes and wine on the surface, but behind the scenes it's often problem solving, improvising and keeping things moving when things don't quite go to plan.

Just another day in the winery. 🍷

Throwback Thursday to the moment Vintage 2025 officially kicked off.

The first Chardonnay grapes rolling into the winery and a team hoping everything behaves itself.

This is where every vintage begins. Fruit arriving fresh from the vineyard, the crusher coming to life, and the first golden juice flowing through the system.

It's one of the most exciting moments of the year.

Months of growing.
One chance to get it right.

Looking back now, it's hard to believe how quickly the season flew by. At the time, though, we were only just getting started...

And yes, everyone was still smiling. 😅🍇

There’s something about McLaren Vale that gets under your skin.

Maybe it’s the rolling vineyards stretching to the horizon. Maybe it’s the smell of eucalyptus after rain. Maybe it’s knowing that generations of families have poured their lives into this landscape long before us.

This is more than where we make wine.

It’s where early mornings begin. Where vintage stories are written. Where friendships are forged over long days and shared bottles. Where every season leaves its mark on the land and on the people who call it home.

We’re lucky enough to see this view often, but it never gets old.

Home.

McLaren Vale.

Vintage sounds romantic until everything ripens at once.

A delayed start. Machinery ready. Tanks ready. Team ready-ish.
Then suddenly… every variety decides to arrive at the same time.

That’s when winemaking becomes controlled chaos.

Late nights. Very early mornings. Tired bodies. Quick decisions. A few deep breaths. Then back into it.

Because in vintage, things rarely go exactly to plan.
You adapt. You move quickly. You solve the problem.
Then you get on with making the wine.

Old vines. Small yield. Big character. 🍇

This Shiraz comes from a 60-year-old vineyard between McLaren Vale and McLaren Flat.

Not much fruit—but that’s the point. More concentration, more depth, more intensity.

We don’t just look at numbers. We taste, we observe, we listen to the vineyard.

Because the fastest way to know it’s ready… is still the palate.

Then we match it with data and make the call.

That’s where instinct meets precision.

Every parcel resets the system. ⚙️🍇

Conveyor. Fingers. Rollers.

Then the juggling starts—speed up here, adjust there—until everything flows just right.

The goal is simple: clean fruit, minimal disruption, pure expression into the ferment.

When it’s dialed in, the tank tells you immediately—smooth, even, almost like a layer of black caviar across the surface.

That’s when you know the fruit is protected.

Throwback to November 2017. Who needs a gym membership when you’re building a winery? 💪

All hands on deck getting the concrete pad ready for the new winery build.

The mission:

✔️ carry endless sheets of rio mesh
✔️ squeeze them through the canopy
✔️ position everything perfectly
✔️ survive long enough for the first concrete pour

The deck went down in two stages — front half… then back half.

A lot of hard work.

A lot of dust.

Probably a few sore backs.

Worth it? We'd say so. 🍷
