(895)

Creating wines that reflect our sense of place and our way of life is what we do best. We love the unusual, celebrate provenance and encourage exploration by making wines that suit the food we make and the way we live. Our approach brings together decades of winemaking experience with growing insights, to create wines that offer a new way of thinking; inspiring a generation of winemakers that deli

ght in the different, trusting what the land can produce. Our wines tell the story of region and vineyard – the journey of Pannell Enoteca.

"The best of all possible results is a wine that reflects location, accent and the circumstances of the season, a faithful record of what has passed and still endures." - Stephen Pannell.

Forty vintages of listening to the land before asking anything of it. At Koomilya, 800 metres of creek line cleared by hand and 3,600 indigenous plants returned to the landscape. At Protero, five clones of Nebbiolo among Australia's finest. At Little Branch, 100-year-old bush vine Grenache on 50-million-year-old soils.

The Real Review has named Stephen Pannell Vigneron of the Year Australia 2026.
This is what a life devoted to wine looks like.

It's always special when old friends bring great wine.
Eugene Qiao of G.D. Vajra visited our Wine Room alongside the Pannell family earlier this month, a friendship stretching back to 2004, we each shared three varieties at the heart of both estates. Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo.
Throughout the month of May Piedmont meets at S.C.Pannell, McLaren Vale.
Taste these three varieties from two master winemakers side by side, Saturdays and Sundays throughout May. Bookings essential via our website https://pannell.com.au/pages/contact

This is why we do what we do. Stephen soaking up an extraordinary autumn evening at the cellar door — that light, those shadows. McLaren Vale in May is something else entirely.

Stephen Pannell has been named Vigneron of the Year Australia 2026 by The Real Review.

The term matters. A vigneron grows their own grapes and makes wine from them. Accountable to the land from vine to bottle. In Australia, where viticulture and winemaking are commonly separated, that is genuinely rare.

Forty vintages. One conviction: great wine must taste of the place it came from.
Congratulations Stephen and Fiona.

"He's a vigneron through and through"
Huon Hooke, The Real Review

We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Stephen Pannell has been named Vigneron of the Year 2026 by The Real Review — and we are absolutely over the moon.

From the heart-stopping single-vineyard Grenaches from the Littlebranch Vineyard to our Nebbiolo from Protero Vineyard, and the outstanding Shiraz form KOOMILYA Vineyard, his recognition is a testament to Stephen's unwavering commitment to estate grown fruit and wines that genuinely reflect where they come from.

Congratulations, Stephen — this one's yours.

From the vineyard to the bottle, every decision is made with care.
To be recognised as one of The Real Review's Top Wineries of Australia 2026 means the world to us.
Stephen inspires us every day, and this is a reflection of the entire team's hard work and commitment. We couldn't be more proud.

Stephen Pannell has been named Vigneron of the Year Australia 2026 by The Real Review — and what a year to receive it.

Shiraz of the Year from Halliday. 100 points from the Wine Advocate. And now this. Three labels, four estates, more than two decades of love poured into McLaren Vale soil.

This is what it looks like when a vigneron gives everything to the land.

🎙️ In the hushed tones of Sir David Attenborough...

"Here, deep in the coastal rolling hills of McLaren Vale, we observe a remarkable annual phenomenon. At the close of another extraordinary vintage, the exhausted winemaker Chris at the end of Vintage finds shelter in a warm, dark, comfortable burrow — in this case the Aglianico Oak Vat which is still warm — in which to hibernate and safely pass the cold winter months ahead."

"Note the unmistakable expression of contentment. The hands raised in triumph. He has survived another vintage."

Chris — deep in the barrel, stained to the elbows, grinning from ear to ear. This is what the end of vintage looks like. Thanks to Stephen for capturing this moment on what is; Vintage #47 for SCP.

A huge thank you to Richard, Carmine, Alex and Chris for all you hard work during yet another successful and enjoyable 2026 vintage.

And of course — a heartfelt nod to the greatest storyteller of the natural world, Sir David Attenborough, who recently turned 100. His voice made us all see at the world differently. Happy Century, Sir David Attenborough. 🌿
