All hail the King.... that being Grenache of course, the most aristocratic grape of McLaren Vale, dare we say the Kingdom of Australia.

As a special treat we will include a sneak peak at our 2025 Akira & Komorebi single vineyard Grenache paired with our 2024 releases in our In-Focus experience all weekend..

No it's not a magic potion.
Sometimes we use dry ice to create an inert atmosphere, keeping oxygen out helps maintain freshness, flavour and crisp acidity in some wines such as our 2026 Grenache Blanc which has just completed barrel fermentation on lees.
Some of it we are locking down tight and fresh, while a few barrels we will stir on lees (batonage) to build texture, complexity and mouthfeel for a few months prior to bottling.

What may seem to be a photograph of 3 similar bottles is far more than that...

For the first time ever, we recently opened 3 consecutive vintages of our 'Komorebi' Grenache from the wonderful Smart Vineyard of Clarendon.

The 2023 being 100% from the 1971 plantings, while the soon to be released 2024 is a blend of the 1971 and 1955 short rows and the last but certainly not least being the 2025 vintage exclusively from the 1955 short rows.

Whilst the site leaves an indelible brushstroke upon each wine, the vintage variation and perhaps the evolution of understanding in how we nurture the fruit from this vineyard created a thought-provoking vertical tasting that brought much pleasure to our guests and definitely a sense of great excitement to us.

Stay tuned for the very limited release of the 24' Komorebi and future release of the 25' vintage.

Komorebi translates to sunlight filtering through the trees in Japanese.
Our diligent use of whole bunch fermentation, extended maceration and vessels, including both clay and oak come together in our translation of this sunlight by way of tannin, spice and transparent fruit profile.

There’s a bit of comfort in knowing things aren’t fixed. Each vintage stands on its own, shaped by whatever that year brought with it.

We don’t try to repeat it or mould it into something familiar.

It’s better to let it be what it is and take it as it comes.

This one’s long been a favourite for us.

Single site Pinot, nothing pushed too hard, just worked through mindfully and left to find its own balance.

There’s a softness to it, but it still carries through those delicious strawberries and cream flavours. Fine bead, dry, and easy to come back to.

We don’t have the vocabulary of the talented wordsmith in quotation, so we’ll stick to trying to making something delicious.
