Substation33 is a YFS social enterprise based in the Logan suburb of Meadowbrook. YFS also champions social enterprise, with four of varying size and purpose.

YFS is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers a wide range of services to the people of Logan and beyond. We cater to people who are disadvantages, vulnerable or want to improve their circumstance. Our vision is building independence and participation. Our purpose is to deliver services designed to promote independence and citizenship. We champion rights and responsibilities and clients taking up social, cultural and economic opportunities. Substation33 is a social enterprise of YFS. Substation33 opened its doors in January 2013 as an electronic waste recycling centre, providing a workplace where volunteers and employees gain confidence and skills for the transition to sustainable employment. Substation 33 is an alternate and eco-friendly way to dispose of eWaste. We accept everything electronic, including computers, mobile phones, televisions and game consoles. We even accept those vintage treasures like record players. If you've got some eWaste you're looking to dispose of, contact us on 3826 1533 or 0439 843 706 to arrange a pick up for a small fee or come down to our Kingston location to drop it off for free. Once we've collected your eWaste, our team of volunteers decide what to do next. The electronics we decide are too good to waste are checked thoroughly to make sure you get exactly what's advertised. Everything else, we pull apart and source back into the manufacturing stream. By choosing to support Substation 33 (by donating your eWaste or buying our products) you're not only reducing your carbon footprint, but also supporting our other mission; to provide practical work experience for a wide range of people disadvantaged in the employment market.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR REFURB IT GRADUATES! 🎉

Congratulations to our latest Refurb IT trainees on completing their 21-week journey!

We recently celebrated their achievements here at Substation33, surrounded by friends, family and the people who supported them along the way.

One of our graduates, Phoenix, shared a speech that captured what this journey has meant to him. We thought it was too good not to share. 💛

A few words from Phoenix:

“Hi everyone, my name is Phoenix.

I’ve had a great time over the last 21 weeks. What I’ve enjoyed most is the company of the people I’ve worked with, especially my supervisors, Josh and James. Everyone made me feel welcome, and that’s something I’ve really appreciated.

When I first started, I had no idea how to even begin fixing a laptop or desktop. Now I feel a lot more confident taking them apart and working on them. I’ve enjoyed learning those skills and being able to put them into practice.

It’s also helped me feel more comfortable around unfamiliar people. I’m more confident socialising and having a conversation, and I reckon I’ve picked up a new sense of humour along the way.

What I’m most proud of is the friendships I’ve made with my supervisors and the crew. Those friendships have been a big part of what made my time here so good.

Thanks to Josh, James and everyone I’ve worked alongside for making the last twenty one weeks such a great experience. I’m leaving with new skills, more confidence and good memories.

Happy Father Day 2026.
Thanks for all the Dads Granddads Great Greatdads and Father Figures that support not only their own families of origin but also our young people at Substation33
Whether as volunteers staff or just simply great community associates we appreciate all the positive conversations and guidance offered and always from a place of deep respect.
Today we want to especially acknowledge Craig Jason and Bobby for giving up their own Father's day to support our team to process a few hundred thousand containers.
The drivers for delivering those goods and the team at Uptown for open that store to keep the containers heading our way.
It takes a village as they say and Substation33 is simply that - a village of like minded individuals looking to create meaningfull employment and pathways for our young people.

Hi Everyone, just a shout out to let you know that Substation33 will be closed for the Ekka holiday on Monday 10th!

Well we might have been a little quiet on ours socials over the past few weeks, however this has not been the case in our sheds.
Our Build It Skilling Queenslanders for Work Tiny House project is coming along nicely.
Over the past few weeks our 8 trainees have been getting inducted trained and most importantly getting amongst the tools.
Today is paint day where we add a bit of colour to what was once a pile of steel laying on the floor.
The trainees under the experienced eyes of teamleader Luke have build this super structure from nothing.
Next week its floors windows and roof on.
Then its solar panels and battery's build from eWaste here at Substation33.
Then into the detailed part with cabinets and bathrooms.
Watch this space as we build out our off- grid Tiny home while also developing the skill set of our wonderful young trainees.

Substation33 @ LEAF

Substation33’s Solar Coffee Trailer was at the Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) last weekend held at Griffith Uni’s Logan campus. It was a busy day fueling people with coffee, hot chocolates and chai, and chatting with people about Substation33, especially our lithium ion battery management projects.

So what is LEAF?

Held annually, LEAF is the city's largest event dedicated to sustainability, environmental conservation, and the wonder of nature. It brings together top sustainability experts and conservationists for a day of interactive workshops, engaging talks, and hands-on activities designed to inspire and educate.
