Substation33

Substation33 Substation33 is a YFS social enterprise based in the Logan suburb of Meadowbrook. YFS also champions social enterprise, with four of varying size and purpose.

YFS is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers a wide range of services to the people of Logan and beyond. We cater to people who are disadvantages, vulnerable or want to improve their circumstance. Our vision is building independence and participation. Our purpose is to deliver services designed to promote independence and citizenship. We champion rights and responsibilities and clients takin

g up social, cultural and economic opportunities. Substation33 is a social enterprise of YFS. Substation33 opened its doors in January 2013 as an electronic waste recycling centre, providing a workplace where volunteers and employees gain confidence and skills for the transition to sustainable employment. Substation 33 is an alternate and eco-friendly way to dispose of eWaste. We accept everything electronic, including computers, mobile phones, televisions and game consoles. We even accept those vintage treasures like record players. If you've got some eWaste you're looking to dispose of, contact us on 3826 1533 or 0439 843 706 to arrange a pick up for a small fee or come down to our Kingston location to drop it off for free. Once we've collected your eWaste, our team of volunteers decide what to do next. The electronics we decide are too good to waste are checked thoroughly to make sure you get exactly what's advertised. Everything else, we pull apart and source back into the manufacturing stream. By choosing to support Substation 33 (by donating your eWaste or buying our products) you're not only reducing your carbon footprint, but also supporting our other mission; to provide practical work experience for a wide range of people disadvantaged in the employment market.

It’s been a big week at Substation33, with both our Refurb IT and Drive IT programs in full swing and our young participants kicking goals! 🚗💻

Our Drive IT participants have been on the road with Substation33’s qualified driving instructors, building confidence, learning new skills, and working towards becoming safe, capable drivers in a supportive environment.

Meanwhile, our Refurb IT trainees commenced on Monday and have been learning the fundamentals of IT and getting hands-on experience along the way.

Both groups spent today working hard towards their Certificate I in Workplace Skills, building valuable skills for their future employment.

It’s been a busy, productive week full of learning, growth, and achievements. We hope everyone enjoys a well earned rest this weekend - you’ve earned it! 🎉👏

All In: Logan Reconciliation Event

Subbstation33 was proud to be a part of the Reconciliation Day event held at Woodridge State High on Thursday the 28th May. We hosted a BBQ and served barista coffees from our Solar Coffee Trailer. Some of our new trainees were able to practice their newly acquired customer service and barista skills and they did it all in pouring rain with smiles on their faces.

The "All In: Logan Reconciliation Event" is a free, community-led celebration held to commemorate National Reconciliation Week. Delivered in partnership by YFS, Logan District Elders, and the Logan City Council, the day brings the community together to share culture, food, and activities.

See IT Be IT Graduation.

Last Thursday our latest group of trainees celebrated the completion of their Skilling Queenslanders for Work Traineeship. We had a graduation ceremony at our Substation33 location to mark the occasion with guests, family, friends and employers.

All participants have either secured employment or are in the final stages of securing employment. We want to congratulate them all for completing their traineeship and wish them all the best in their future!

This is the last group of trainees that will go through See IT be IT, and we will have a new group of trainees starting in Refurb IT on 1 June.

Congratulations from all of us here at Substation33!

What might look like to some as a simple container refund scheme is in fact a complex series of multi disciplinary businesses that work incredibly hard every day of the year to make the refund scheme work seamlessly for the Queensland population.
Substation33 is just one cog in a big complex machine.
Everyday I feel humbled that I get to lead such an amazing group of people that change the lives of both themselves, and others, striving for a better future.

Commercial Coffee Machine Donation Request!

Substation33 are calling on our incredible Logan community to get a newer coffee machine for our solar coffee trailer.

We use our solar-powered coffee trailer to support community events and as an opportunity to train young people, staff and employees to assist them in gaining skills for employment.
