Rain, sausages and recycling… a pretty great combo for Murdunna!

We officially opened our new Recycle Rewards RVM at the Murdunna Roadhouse on Tuesday 26 March!
Despite rainy weather, the local community still showed up to learn more about the site!

A big thanks to our amazing hosts for putting on a sausage sizzle that helped draw a fantastic crowd.

It was great to have two of our Peninsula donation partners join us on the day – Dunalley Primary School/Dunalley Primary School Association and the Dunalley Golf Club. Dunalley Primary School are raising funds (amongst other things) for their Winter Raffle, Quiz Night and in preparation for the Bream Creek Show next year. We’re looking forward to working closely with both groups as they raise funds through the scheme.

Cleanaway driver Tash also dropped in with the beautifully branded Recycle Rewards collections truck, which was a big hit with the kids!

A big first day of recycling that saw 7 recycle lightweight bins and 1 glass bin collected, a strong start for the site and a great sign of things to come.

Remember to stop by the Murdunna Roadhouse on your way through the peninsula to return your eligible drink containers.

The Coburg Tennis Club is one of the many great local clubs raising funds with Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme!

With CDS Vic, sports clubs can raise funds simply by collecting and returning eligible drink containers. Every bottle and can counts - helping support equipment, uniforms, and club activities while keeping our communities clean.

Game on for good 💪

What is a reverse vending machine?♻️

Our RVMs, short for reverse vending machines, come in a few different shapes and sizes, but they all do one simple thing - they take your eligible drink containers and give you a reward in return (your 10c refunds!)

Instead of dispensing a drink (like a regular vending machine), you pop your eligible bottles, cans, and cartons back in. The machine scans each item to make sure it’s part of Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme, then counts them up and refunds you your 10¢ refund per container either via a voucher or the app.

It’s quick, easy, and a great way to make a difference. Whether you keep the refund or donate it to a local cause or sports club, every container helps reduce litter, boost recycling, and support the community.

Next time you’ve got empties, skip the bin head to your local West Zone refund point and turn your empties into something good 🙌 💚

It's easy - make sure to keep your bottle lids on tight when depositing your drink bottles to make sure every part of your container can start it's recycling journey!

Exciting things happening in Nubeena!

Yesterday the brand new Recycle Rewards RVM officially opened, and the community is already getting behind it.

In the lead-up, training was underway as part of RVM launch, with a focus on making sure hosts feel confident running the machine. The session was delivered to the Tasman Ex-Services Club team and members of Highcroft-Stormlea CWA and CWA Nubeena Community Hall who will help operate the refund point.
Led by our Network Manager Susan, the hands-on training covered everything from day-to-day management and basic troubleshooting to safety and supporting users. It was incredibly well received, with lots of participation and enthusiasm: a great sign for a smooth and successful community launch!

A big shout out to CWA Highcroft and CWA Nubeena, who will both be helping manage the refund point and are also donation partners. Funds raised will go toward some fantastic local projects — CWA Highcroft are working to repair the clubhouse floorboards, while CWA Nubeena are raising funds to help fix the town hall.

Be sure to stop by, return your containers, and support these great community initiatives! 🙏♻️

Celebrating communities that care 💚

Across the weekend, we were proud to sponsor the Keep Australia Beautiful Tidy Towns awards at the City Of Launceston’s Albert Hall, bringing together passionate communities from across the country, all committed to making a lasting environmental impact.

A huge congratulations to Williams, WA, named this year’s national winner 👏 and to every finalist local government area recognised for their outstanding efforts in sustainability, community spirit and local pride. Your work continues to inspire.

At TOMRA Cleanaway, supporting Tidy Towns is about more than sponsorship. It reflects what we stand for: empowering communities to take action, reduce waste, and build a cleaner, more sustainable future together.

To all the volunteers, organisers and community champions—thank you for the role you play in keeping Australia beautiful 🌱

We were proud to attend the 2026 KARI Aboriginal Education and Employment Expo alongside so many passionate organisations committed to supporting meaningful pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

It was great connecting with students, job seekers and community members, and sharing opportunities within TOMRA Cleanaway and our scheme partners who help deliver Return and Earn ♻️

Events like this highlight the power of community, connection and access - helping people take confident steps toward education and employment.

Thanks to KARI Australia for hosting such an incredible event. We're exciting to keep building relationships and supporting stronger pathways for the communities we serve 💙

A big thank you as well to our team who represented TOMRA Cleanaway on the day - Romina Zapanta, Alysia Cassin, Tara Rapley, and Lachlan Jackson!
