Australian scientists have just made history. Researchers from CSIRO, The University of Melbourne, and RMIT have developed and tested the world's first proof-of-concept quantum battery, a technology that could change how we charge and store energy forever.
Unlike conventional batteries that rely on chemical reactions, quantum batteries harness the strange laws of quantum mechanics to charge faster as they grow larger. Read about this remarkable Australian-led discovery and what it could mean for the future of energy.

Melbourne Connect Co-working was delighted to host Amy Heffernan from Fuse Recruitment for our latest Lunch & Learn.

Amy led a practical and insightful working session on hiring smarter through the growth journey, offering attendees clear strategies for navigating recruitment after a raise. Participants left with a hiring readiness framework and a one-page planning tool designed to support better hiring decisions during periods of growth.

We extend our thanks to Amy for her time and expertise, and to everyone who joined us for the afternoon. We look forward to seeing you at our next event.

The research happening within our Melbourne Connect Co-working community continues to impress.

National Imaging Facility (NIF), one of our resident members, has been supporting MuscleMap, an AI-powered platform that can detect muscle decline before symptoms even appear. With Australian healthcare costs for musculoskeletal and neurological conditions tipped to exceed $21 billion by 2033, the timing of this work could not be more important.

We love seeing the work of our Melbourne Connect Co-working community making an impact beyond these walls.

Our members at AuScope have partnered with CO2CRC to push the boundaries of subsurface monitoring at the Otway International Test Centre, using cutting-edge technology to observe underground processes at a level of resolution that simply was not possible before.

The research is helping build Australia's capability in CO2 storage, and has applications across geothermal energy, hydrogen storage, and more.

Proud to share our space with the people doing this work.

We are thrilled to be the home of the Critical Infrastructure & Supply Chain Security Panel on 18 May.

Global Tech Partners has put together a remarkable line-up for this free evening event, including Karen Just (CCTP), Senior Regional Security at The Walt Disney Company. With support from Cynet Security, the panel will dig into the growing pressure on critical infrastructure and supply chains, and what the shrinking divide between national security and private sector resilience really means for organisations on the ground.

If you work in security, operations, risk, or just want to understand what is keeping industry leaders up at night, this one is for you.

When: Monday 18 May, 5:00 PM AEST
Where: Melbourne Connect Co-working, Level 2, 700 Swanston Street, Carlton

This month, we're shining a light on a team that has been part of our community since 2022, and what a journey it's been to watch them grow.

Founded in 2013 by Yifei Wang, AIBUILD has achieved more than 500% company growth (source: www.aibuild.com, 2026), a testament to both the vision behind the business and the hard work that has driven it forward.

A Melbourne-based AI innovation and commercialisation company, AIBUILD partners with industry, government, and universities to build and scale AI-driven ventures.

From healthcare and aged care to infrastructure and smart environments, they turn cutting-edge research into practical technologies that create genuine real-world impact.

Fish are getting smaller. Oceans are warming. And the way we fish might be making both problems worse, or better, depending on what we choose to do.

New research from the University of Melbourne found that protecting the biggest, most fertile fish helps populations stay resilient as oceans warm, while repeatedly targeting them pushes stocks closer to collapse.

It turns out sustainable fishing isn't just about how many fish we take. It's about which fish we take.

What a session.

Michael Kerrison brought a room full of industry professionals and co-working community members together for an honest conversation about AI, what it can actually do, what it means for your work, and where it is all heading.

Whether you left the room a convert or still working through it, there was plenty to take away.

AI is increasingly finding its way into the doctor's office, but are patients being kept in the loop?

A University of Melbourne researcher is raising important questions about the growing use of AI "scribes" in GP consultations. Nearly half of all GPs now use the technology, yet patients aren't always told, and research shows AI-generated notes can contain errors, omissions, and fabricated information.

As a space embedded within The University of Melbourne, we love seeing our community ask not just what AI can do, but what it should do. Head to the link to read more.
