Ever wondered what happens to heavy steel once it reaches the scrap yard?
This is HMS โ Heavy Melting Steel.
Once it arrives at Norstar, the HMS is processed through our 2,100-tonne Vezzani shear. ๐ช
The shear uses enormous cutting force to reduce the steel into smaller, more manageable pieces, but itโs not simply about making it smaller.
Steel mills need scrap that can be efficiently handled, transported and charged into a furnace. Processing the HMS into a more consistent size prepares it for the next stage of the steelmaking process.
What you see here is the result.
This processed HMS can now be transported and ultimately melted down to make new steel.
So that steel that has reached the end of its current life?
Itโs not waste. Itโs raw material for the next one. โป๏ธ
