Sometimes, it pays to take a closer look at your training arrangements.

Pane e Pizza transferred their apprentice to WTS after he had fallen around one year behind his training contract.

The employer was also looking for more support with their government subsidy claims.

We reviewed the training arrangement, supported both the apprentice and employer, helped maximise their eligible claims, and put a plan in place to get the apprentice back on track.

The employer was very happy with the support from WTS, particularly the help they received with getting their claims sorted.

Good training support should support the apprentice AND the employer.
It can pay to review your current training arrangements.

The compliance letter no business owner wants to receive.

Compliance isn't something to think about only when an issue comes up.
Keeping your training, assessment and records organised and current is an important part of managing your training arrangements.

Take a moment to ask:
✔️ Are your training documents up to date?
✔️ Are learner and assessment records organised?
✔️ Are your processes clear?
✔️ Could you quickly find the evidence you need?

A regular review can help you identify gaps before they become bigger problems.
When was the last time you checked?

Save this post as a reminder to review your training processes.

Choosing an RTO? Ask these 3 questions first.

Before you enrol your apprentices, make sure you understand:
1️⃣ How will you know they're actually progressing?
2️⃣ How often will communication and support occur?
3️⃣ How does the training connect to the workplace?

Your training provider should be able to clearly explain how your apprentices will be trained, supported and monitored.

Training shouldn't just happen in the background.

You should know what's happening, where your apprentices are up to and how their training connects to the work they're doing.

📌 Save this checklist for later or share it with someone responsible for training.

Training is about more than enrolment.
Over the past 2 years, Biddick’s Bakery has had 4 baking apprentices complete their training with WTS — a 100% completion rate for the apprentices they’ve signed with us.

And it doesn't stop there.
Another apprentice is progressing towards completion, while Biddick’s continues to sign up more apprentices and RPL candidates with WTS.

Why?
Because the training relationship matters.
Consistent communication. Learner support. Follow-through.
That's the difference between simply enrolling someone and actually supporting them through their training journey.

Is your training provider giving your apprentices the support they need?

Training should do more than tick a box.

It should build the skills, confidence and consistency people need to perform well at work.

Real training. Real skills. Real workplace results.

How much is poor training actually costing your business?
Poor training doesn't just affect skills.

It can lead to:
→ Inconsistent performance
→ More mistakes and rework
→ Wasted time
→ Staff frustration
→ Higher turnover
→ Lost productivity

And sometimes, the issue isn't the employee — it's the training process around them.

So here's the question:
What do you think poor training is costing your business?

Management training should be connected to the real world.

Our SIR40316 Certificate IV in Retail Management is designed to help learners develop practical management skills they can apply directly in the workplace.

A key part of our approach is the CEL System, which is built directly into the assessments. Learners and trainer Norman Clegg can work together in real time to discuss scenarios, develop responses, ask questions and receive feedback throughout the assessment process.

Learners also have access to:

• Video lectures to work through at their own pace
• Live classes — 3 hours monthly for discussion, questions and trainer support
• Collaborative assessments using the CEL System
• Practical, workplace-focused learning relevant to retail management

And behind that training is more than four decades of industry experience.

Norman Clegg brings over 45 years of experience across global retail and manufacturing, including leadership and operational roles with Calvin Klein, Levi Strauss, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren, as well as change management work with Target and other Australian organisations.

His career has involved business transformation, operational improvement, supply chain efficiency, strategic management, leadership and team development across multiple continents.

That experience now shapes the way we deliver our management training — bringing real industry knowledge into the learning and assessment process.

What does a baking apprenticeship actually look like?

It’s more than learning recipes.

Our apprentices get hands-on experience in our baking workshops, developing the practical skills they need to work confidently in the industry.

From donuts, croissants and danish to display pastries and plenty more, our workshops give apprentices the opportunity to practise techniques, work with professional equipment and build their skills alongside their training.

These workshops form part of our baking apprenticeship programs, combining practical learning with the knowledge and skills required to work in the baking industry.

If you're interested in starting a baking apprenticeship, or you're a bakery looking to train and develop an apprentice, get in touch with Workplace Training Strategies. RTO 21859
