With the State Budget announcement today and the RBA Increased interest rates its a great time to stop and reflect on your career.

The budget announcement brings job opportunities with 7000 new Healthcare jobs to be available.
12 Billion is going into Healthcare, 1.8 billion into Education with 13 new schools within the State,
779 million to recruit about 1900 new teachers, 342 million into Victoria Police, recruiting about 1500 new officers, 383 million into Transport, creating job opportunities in the infrastructure. The budget predicts employment to increase in the coming years with 3.5 million Victorians in work by June and job opportunities to increase.

As a Recruitment and Career Consulting business I speak with Employers / Business owners on a weekly basis. Most recently my conversation with Employers has been focused on 'Why is recruiting employees in 2022 so hard'. Employers ask me this question on a regular basis. Here are some points as why this is happening in 2022:

The job market has undergone major changes in the last 2 years. COVID has had a big impact on these major changes

Business owners have not adjusted to these changes. Business owners must now be open to more flexible options

Lack of skilled candidates, forcing business owners to settle for unskilled candidates

Flexibility & remote working conditions - this is now a very common request from candidates. Business owners now have to adapt to these request if the business has the ability to deliver work remotely

Self Employed. The last 2 years has seen a major increase in self employment. This is affecting the job market for businesses

It''s currently a very competitive job market in 2022 business owners need to stay up to date with the competitive job market to secure the right candidates

A business owner must be open to hiring candidates they can upskill and not always focus on candidates that have the 'experience'

I receive so many resumes here at Trish Mara Career Consulting! Most recently I have received resumes for the current vacancies I have advertised! BUT it completely surprises me to read so many resumes with spelling mistakes, oversharing of unnecessary information, wrong email addresses BUT sadly it completely surprises me to receive resumes with a wrong contact phone number! Tonight I spent the evening contacting suitable candidates who have applied for my job ads...sadly out of 10 calls, 4 candidates had a disconnected number on their resume!

IMPORTANT TIP: Always make sure your resume has updated information.

It saddens me to think these candidates are applying for work and not even realising why they're not being contacted.

I worked in Job Services for over 20yrs. I know the feeling of losing your job, I know the feeling of having to re-apply or not knowing what is next in your career.
