We’re about to bring in a machine that can process eight times more than what we’ve got right now.

A business update from Michael, our CEO: this thing, "The Beast", is six times the physical size of our current equipment. That’s more recycling capacity than any other facility in the country, and not just for clothing. More material types, more volume, more of the “impossible” jobs we couldn’t take on before.

August has been a logistics exercise more than anything else, our team’s been scattered across the country trying to land every piece of this. But the facility of the future is close. Hold tight.

Saturday was busy at the LSKD legging swap day, with their new Fountain Gate store launch!

Over 300 pairs of leggings donated, resulting in over 85kg of textile waste diverted from landfill - all in a couple hours in the morning.

Every pair now goes through UPPAREL’s recycling process instead of ending up in the ground, and we were able to save around 300kg of greenhouse gases by diverting from landfill.

We're proud to be LSKD's recycling partner for the Fountain Gate launch.

Loose thread waste does the same damage as throwing fistfuls of fishing line into the environment. Birds get tangled in both.

That's the fact that changed how Banjo Valley handles its offcuts. For years the answer was hoarding it, boxing it up and trying to make something out of it when there was time. There never was enough time, and it barely made a dent in the waste.

Recycling sounded like it needed a big process change, or a lengthy approval nobody had time for. It didn't. Box it up, send it off, it's handled.

What made the switch easy: an Australian-based partner, transparent about where the material actually goes. Recyclable packaging. Machines saved from old factories. Renewable power running the whole operation.

Before UPPAREL, Sameh was a photojournalist in Gaza. Press credentials, camera in hand, documenting a war that most of the world only watched from a distance.

When it became too dangerous to stay, he fled Gaza with his family and came to Australia. Starting over in a country he’d never set foot in, looking for the same thing anyone rebuilding a life looks for: somewhere safe to put his hands to work.

Episode 2 of Humans of UPPAREL is his story. On what safety actually means when you’ve lived without it. On a workplace that doesn’t care what background you are, only whether you show up for the people next to you. And on the moment work stops being a job and starts being home.

Inside Yarra Trams 's Brunswick depot, there's a bin quietly changing what happens to old uniforms.

When UPPAREL introduced recycling bins on site, something interesting happened. Uniform that would've sat in cupboards, or ended up in the bin, started coming in fast. Turns out the guilt of throwing out good fabric was real, and giving people somewhere easy to put it changed the behaviour instantly.

It's not just about giving old uniforms a second life. Uniform left unaccounted for is a security risk, so every piece that comes through UPPAREL is securely destroyed and tracked before it's ever repurposed. No uniform in the wrong hands, no gaps in the chain.

For the Yarra Trams team, the guilt of binning good fabric is gone. There's now somewhere easy to take it, and knowing it gets a second life instead of ending up in landfill actually matters to them.
