It’s Cyber Security Month, so we asked our Lead Information Security Consultant, Nino, to share some of the common issues he sees when reviewing and developing management systems.

We’ll be sharing his insights throughout the month, starting with “The Shared Admin Problem.”

It’s surprisingly common for an entire department to operate using one shared administrator account. It might be convenient and cost-effective, but what happens when someone changes a setting or something goes wrong?
If everyone is using the same account, there may be no clear way to determine who did what.

Nino’s advice: Think about whether that convenience is worth the risk. Access should ideally be traceable to an individual, and if shared passwords are used, make sure they’re changed when someone leaves the business.
