Safe or Unsafe?

We have developed The 3Cs of Workplace Conversations©, a simple, practical framework designed to help people prepare for courageous conversations. Easy to understand, remember and apply, the tool supports people to stay in the productive middle ground, ensuring conversations don't drift into either avoidance and comfort or confrontation and conflict.
Recently, through our work delivering our Grounded Accountability program, we've had some thought-provoking discussions with clients that have prompted us to overlay the concepts of clear, safe and kind, and their opposites, onto the framework.
One question continues to spark debate: Is a comfortable conversation actually safe, or is it unsafe? On one hand, it may feel safe because it avoids discomfort and challenge. On the other, it may be unsafe because important issues remain unspoken, leaving the recipient without the feedback, clarity or support they need to grow and succeed.

I'd love to hear your perspective. Safe or unsafe, and why?
