As B Corp Month wraps up, we’ve been reflecting on what being a B Corp actually looks like in our day-to-day work.

For us at Conversation Co, it’s shaped how we think about impact from the ground up.

It means designing engagement that people can genuinely take part in, not just processes that tick a box.
It means translating complex, often technical information into something clear, accessible and useful.
It means being more intentional about what we produce, how we produce it, and the footprint it leaves behind.
And it means building a team culture that supports people to do their best work, sustainably.

Being a B Corp gives us a framework, but more importantly, it gives us a constant prompt to ask: can we do this better?

As the month comes to a close, that question doesn’t go anywhere. If anything, it becomes the focus.

Today is National Close the Gap Day.

It’s an important moment to reflect on the ongoing disparities in health, life expectancy and education experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and the collective action needed to address them.

At the heart of Closing the Gap is a shift from acting for to acting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This means listening, partnering and ensuring First Nations voices are part of the decisions that affect them.

For those of us working in community engagement, this principle is fundamental. Meaningful engagement means creating space for communities to share their knowledge, experiences and priorities, and ensuring those voices genuinely shape outcomes.

Swipe through to learn more about Close the Gap Day and some simple ways you can show your support today and throughout the year.

Today we’re celebrating National Love Your Pet Day and the many pets that keep our team smiling. From loyal dogs and curious cats to backyard chickens and even snakes, our team’s pets come in all shapes, sizes and scales.

It’s a fitting day for us, too. We’ve worked with the City of Darebin, City of Whittlesea and Merri-bek City Council to develop their Domestic Animal Management Plans; Dog Off Leash Guidelines with the City of Port Phillip and Cat Curfew Policies. We know just how important the topic of pets is to people, communities and everyday life.

Here’s to the pets that pop up unannounced in Zoom calls and demand attention mid-meeting. Wishing a happy, tail-wagging day to the pets who are very much part of the team, whether they planned to be or not.

We are out and about across Boroondara, engaging in person with communities to help shape the future of local shopping strips and villages. This is Phase One, focused on hearing directly from the community and gathering ideas, insights and feedback across Boroondara’s 54 centres.

The current Shopping Centre Improvement Plan is over a decade old, and the way people shop and spend time locally has changed. Community feedback from this first phase will inform the next stage of a new, future-focused plan, with clear actions, quick wins and longer-term initiatives to support vibrant, welcoming local centres.

🛝 Community insights helped shape Hepburn Shire Council’s Playspace Strategy, guiding how play could be reimagined for people of all ages and abilities. Through interviews, pop-ups, surveys and site audits, the community highlighted what matters most: nature, social connection, local access, inclusive spaces and opportunities for active and passive recreation.

This feedback strengthened the vision for welcoming, accessible playspaces across the Shire. It reinforced the importance of creating places that support families, encourage wellbeing and reflect local identity, while partnering with community groups already connected to these spaces.

Since the Strategy was adopted, several projects have progressed including new outdoor fitness equipment, shade structures, feasibility studies and the transformation of Victoria Park, Daylesford.

🌳 Community engagement helped shape the future vision for Kananook Creek Gardens, one of Seaford’s most loved natural spaces. People shared what they value most about the site, from its history and ecology to the sense of calm it brings to locals and visitors alike.

There was strong support for protecting the Creek’s natural environment, recognising the Bunurong People, planting more Indigenous species and keeping access limited to preserve its character. People also expressed a desire to learn more about the Creek’s stories and pass them on to future generations.

Views differed on elements like cycling, the Beckwith Bridge and lookout opportunities, but the message was clear: the community wants a balance between protection, recognition and enjoyment. You can learn more through the link to the wider masterplans and projects revisited.
