The era of passive careers is over.

You can’t sit back, apply via job boards and wait to be chosen.

That version of the market is gone.

With 10 years in career transition work, the ones who are succeeding in getting interviews are those who have visibility and clear positioning right now.

Here’s four things I would do to achieve that:

1.      Optimise your LinkedIn profile for searchability and positioning

Recruiters aren’t just posting roles but are searching.

And they’re not searching for job titles alone. They’re searching for signals.

→ clear positioning
→ skillsets and keywords aligned to problems you solve
→ content that shows how you think

If your profile isn’t built for search, you’re invisible.

2.      Get closer to the people making decisions

Most roles won’t make it to job boards. They’re filled through:
→ referrals
→ internal conversations
→ “someone we already trust”

Which means your strategy isn’t just applying but to have proximity to the decision makers.

Because the best opportunities aren’t applied for. They’re accessed.

3.      What people say about you when you are not in the room matters

Waiting until you’re ready to move is already too late. Build your brand today.

Your reputation is being formed daily:
→ what you share
→ what you comment on
→ how you show up in conversations

You don’t need to be loud, but you do need to be clear.

Because when the right opportunity comes up, people should already know exactly where to place you.

4.      Become AI-leveraged

You don’t need to be an AI expert but someone who knows how to (in your own field / industry):

→ use AI to increase your output
→ speed up thinking, synthesis, and ex*****on
→ while doubling down on judgement, communication, and decision-making

That’s where the real advantage sits. It’s not enough to be just AI aware now.

Which of the above will you work on this week?

Confidence isn’t ego.

But a lot of people are still treating it like it is.

Which is why they hold back and wait until they feel “ready” to be seen.

In this episode of the Podcast with , The Expert Authority Coach™, we unpack what it really takes to build authority in today’s landscape.

Because it’s not just about being good at what you do anymore.

It’s about being seen for how you think.

We spoke about:
▪ What expert authority actually means (and what it doesn’t)
▪ Why confidence is not arrogance and how to build it authentically
▪ Overcoming imposter syndrome without waiting to feel ready
▪ Creating clear messaging and signature statements that stick
▪ Using podcasting and AI to amplify your visibility and credibility
▪ And how to build a brand that feels aligned, not performative

One of the most powerful reminders from this conversation:

We can all sense when something isn’t real.
Our “baloney detectors” are on.

Which is why authenticity is no longer a nice-to-have.

It’s the foundation of trust, credibility, and authority.

If you’ve been questioning your voice, your positioning, or whether you’re “ready”…

This episode will shift how you see it.

Most people think the goal of a career pivot is to become an expert as fast as possible.

It’s not. The real shift is understanding what you offer and learning how to position it clearly.

I see this all the time with clients when they are pivoting.

They stay in “aspiring” language:
→ “I’m hoping to move into…”
→ “I’m trying to transition into…”

But here’s the nuance. It’s not about sounding like you belong and know everything.

I’ve seen both extremes:
→ Underselling (staying stuck)
→ Overcompensating (confidence without substance)

Neither builds trust. The goal is this:

Be clear on what you bring into the room and communicate it with confidence.

Because when you’re clear:
→ Your language shifts
→ Your presence grounds
→ Your message lands

And that’s what people are really asking:
“Can you solve my problem?”
“Can I trust you to do it?”

This is where proof + POV actually works:

→ Accomplishments = proof
→ Transferable skills = bridge
→ Direction = positioning

You’re not just participating. You’re showing you can solve real problems.

And one more thing that matters is curiosity.

A strong pivot isn’t just about sharing your thinking.

It’s about asking better questions and learning as you go.

Opportunities don’t open when you feel totally ready.

They open when others can clearly see where you fit.

And that clarity is built on:
→ Self-awareness
→ Evidence
→ Authentic communication

If you’re in a pivot right now, ask yourself:

What value do I actually bring into this new room?

Not the title and not the aspiration.

But the problems you can solve and how you think.

P.S. How have you shown your value and how you solve problems when you are pivoting careers?

Career transitions often look brave from the outside.

But behind the scenes, they are usually filled with uncertainty, questions, and a lot of internal negotiation.

I was revisiting a Podcast episode with of .au where we spoke about transitioning careers. We both started in the accounting and finance world, and eventually pivoted into very different paths.

Listening back, two reflections stood out and they are transition lessons we would give our younger selves.

1️⃣ Surround yourself with people who will give you honest advice

Not just people who say:
“Just go for it.”

Encouragement feels good, but it is not always the most helpful advice.

The people who truly support your transition are the ones who help you think clearly.

They ask questions you may be avoiding.

They challenge assumptions.

They help you see risks you may not have considered.

That perspective is incredibly valuable when you are making big decisions.

2️⃣ Be rational with your fear

Fear is a natural part of any career transition.

But rather than letting fear drive the decision, break it down logically.

Ask yourself:

• What is the actual risk here?
• What is the worst realistic outcome?
• What can I put in place to reduce that risk?
• What small steps could help test the path first?

Looking back, this is something both Julius and I admit we probably didn’t do well enough at the time.

Transition is not just about courage.

It is about clarity, reflection, and making thoughtful decisions while navigating uncertainty.

If you are currently thinking about a career pivot, you might find the conversation helpful.

Should you put AI on your resume?

The short answer is “yes”

In 2026, AI literacy and fluency is quickly becoming an important part of your job application

The mistake I’m seeing?

People either:
• Avoid mentioning it completely
• Or add “AI enthusiast” or AI as a buzzword

Neither works.

Here’s how to think about it.

AI should show up as capability + commercial impact.

Not:

- Passionate about AI and innovation
- Used Chat GPT for content ideas
- I have experience with AI tools

But to weave AI into your outcomes:

- Implemented AI-assisted reporting workflows, reducing manual analysis time by 40%

- Used AI-driven audience insights to refine positioning and increase engagement

- Led pilot program embedding AI into customer analysis and operational reporting

- Designed AI-supported research process to improve decision speed

If AI is relevant to your field (and in most sectors now, it is), then it belongs in:

- Your experience section
- Your skills section (be specific: list the tools, workflow design, automation)
- Your summary if it’s core to your positioning
- Your micro credentials list (for any short courses completed)

I have been sharing with my clients that the real question isn’t:

“Should I put AI on my resume?”

It’s:

“Can I demonstrate that I know how to work alongside AI to solve a problem faster or better to achieve business outcomes?”

That’s what employers are hiring for.

Think impact from using the tools to get results.

5 interview prep moves that change the outcome (before you even walk in)

Most interviews aren’t lost because you weren’t qualified.

They’re lost because the message didn’t land.

Here’s what I always prep clients on 👇

1️⃣ Every question has an agenda

Interviewers are getting to know you but they aren’t just “chatting”.

Eg A weakness question is not just about the weakness.

It’s testing:
– self-awareness
– emotional regulation
– how you think under pressure

Read the intent behind the question, not just the words.

2️⃣ Confirmation bias kicks in fast

First impressions form early, even in the first few minutes.

That’s why your opening matters.

Know how you’ll introduce yourself clearly, confidently, and with relevance.

Practise, practise and practise again.

Strong start also builds your confidence for the rest of the interview.

3️⃣ Always ask thoughtful questions

Too many ask generic questions.

Good questions signal preparation, curiosity, and commercial thinking.

The questions should show you’ve researched the role, the team, and the challenges, not just memorised the job ad.

Listen to CEO interviews, research company news, analyst reports etc.

4️⃣ Don’t just summarise your resume for them

They already have it.

Your job is to sell your experience, how you think and do things:

– in relation to their problems
– against the gaps they’re trying to solve
– and why you specifically make sense now

5️⃣ Know your salary ranges and walk-away points

Confidence in salary conversations comes from doing research and preparation to give you clarity.

Know:
– your market range
– your non-negotiables
– what you’re willing to walk away from

Preparation here prevents regret later.

Interview prep isn’t about perfect answers.

The most qualified candidates do not always get the role.

It’s about strategic clarity and being the person that gives the hiring manager conviction you are the one to bridge the gap they have.

What interview questions do you struggle with the most?

No one tells you this at the beginning.

You build your network before you fully know what you’re building.

This chat is one of my favourite as the mic turns to the creator.

Sam Silva, the founder of has helped me with many podcast episodes and projects.

But this time, we turned the mic and lens to him.

We spoke about his move from a sudden redundancy into building his own agency over a year ago.

And one lesson stood out.

Networking.

Sam shared that when you’re new in business, you have to find the rooms and show up.

Even when you don’t know anyone.

Even when it feels awkward and uncomfortable at first.

Go with a simple intention to meet a few people.

Have real conversations, learn about the humans behind the businesses and add value.

Sam also set himself small goals such as how many people he’d speak to before leaving an event.

He admitted it felt uncomfortable at first.

But he kept going and after a few events, people started to recognise him, remember him and get to know what he does.

Opportunities then followed.

It was a good reminder that connections compound when you keep showing up.

PS. If you’re building something new and networking feels hard, this episode is worth your time.

Some of the most fulfilling careers are built sideways.

Starting the year with an in-person catch up felt intentional.

Instead of my usual podcast episode for the month, I sat down for a coffee with Tony Rogers.

We met on LinkedIn and realised we were locals.

So what would have been a virtual conversation turned into a face-to-face one.

No microphones.
No agenda.
Just a great coffee and an honest conversation.

Tony’s career journey reminded me how non-linear careers can be:

Here are a few key takeaways that stayed with me.

1. Momentum doesn’t come from certainty.
It often comes from alignment.

There wasn’t a perfect plan or a neat path. He did not go from highschool to university.

Learning happened as it was needed, alongside real work and real life.

2. Sometimes the next chapter begins with “why not.”
He was asked to return to full-time work after being semi-retired.

He paused, considered it, and decided why not.

Not out of pressure, but choice. And he’s genuinely happy.

3. Backing yourself matters at any age.

His advice to his younger self was simple. Back yourself more. Don’t listen to the noise.

4. Misalignment isn’t always conflict.

Sometimes people don’t fall out. They just grow in different directions and that’s ok.

5. Travel stretches more than perspective.

It reshapes how you see work, leadership, and what really matters.

6. Delegation and trust can change your life.

Learning to resource properly and trust others isn’t just a leadership skill. It’s a life one.

7. Impact doesn’t need to be loud.

If you can change one life, you’ve done your job.

There was one thread in our conversation:

There is no need to feel pressure to be linear.

Being deeply aligned is the way and it evolves.

PS. I’m thinking of turning these in-person coffee conversations into a series in 2026.

I don’t have a name yet. Help me name it in the comments 🙏

No one gives you permission to move on - you decide when the chapter ends.

This week alone, I saw this play out in real time.

↳ In a webinar I ran, I watched faces soften when the idea of choosing a new direction finally landed.

↳ I also spoke with a capable leader who admitted her wellbeing was paying the price for a toxic environment she’d been trying to endure.

↳ And I supported a business owner to gently close a chapter that no longer aligned with who she is now.

Many professionals feel the misalignment deep down but hesitate to act on it.

The moment you realise a role, career path, or work environment no longer supports your growth, values, or wellbeing… that awareness matters.

Giving yourself permission to close the chapter first creates space for reinvention.

One of the most liberating realisations in career development is this: you are in the driver’s seat.

You don’t need to wait until you’re burned out, unwell, overlooked, or made redundant to make a change.

The thing is:

- Confidence doesn’t suddenly appear.
- Clarity is built, not given.
- Your resume doesn’t grow by waiting.
- And job boards don’t solve this for you.

Change can feel risky.

But staying stuck has its own cost, to your confidence, mental health, and long-term fulfilment.

Career pivots are not about starting over. It’s about realigning with who you’ve become and what matters now.

And they become clearer and far less daunting when made intentionally, with strategy and support.

Only YOU can name when a chapter has run its course.

PS What chapter are you quietly realising you’ve outgrown?
