A Prime Example of What Industry Can Achieve When It Works Together πŸ‘

Embryo transfer and artificial insemination programs are currently the only pathway for introducing fresh genetics to Norfolk Island, making collaboration, innovation, and practical problem-solving critical to the future of livestock breeding on the island.

What began as a simple client question β€” β€œIs it possible to export bovine genetics to Norfolk Island?” β€” quickly evolved into a significant collaborative industry project.

With support from Regional Development Australia – Mid North Coast, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Imports Team, Breeder Genetics and Holbrook Breeders Australia, the first shipment of bovine genetics across four breeds helped establish the foundation of a long-term breeding program for the island.

Since then, the initiative has expanded to include ovine genetics, with plans underway for bovine, ovine, and caprine genetics to be shipped this year.

Like many pioneering projects, challenges arose, including changes to eligibility requirements that initially reduced available genetic options. Through open discussion, practical solutions, and collaborative engagement with the DAFF Imports Team, pathways were identified that maintained the island’s health status while achieving the desired breeding outcomes.

This is a strong example of what can happen when industry, government, and producers work together toward a shared outcome. πŸšœπŸ„πŸ‘

Update from Minitube Australia
Pre-Scanning: Elevate Your Reproductive Efficiency! ⭐️

Before starting artificial insemination (AI) or recipient synchronisation programs, ovarian scanning and reproductive tract scoring are essential tools for enhancing the reproductive success of heifers and mature cows.

1️⃣ Optimise Fertility: Accurate monitoring of follicular and luteal activity ensures you are enrolling mature heifers and cycling cows in synch programs, maximising conception rates.

2️⃣ Detect Anomalies Early: Identifying conditions like cysts, injuries or infections early allows for proactive management, improving overall fertility.

3️⃣ Streamline Synchronisation: Understanding reproductive status is key for effective synchronisation protocols, enhancing ET, IVF and FTAI success.

4️⃣ Boost Breeding Efficiency: Regular assessments facilitate informed breeding decisions, leading to higher pregnancy rates and improved genetics.

5️⃣ Holistic Herd Management: Integrating reproductive health into overall management promotes longevity and productivity in the herd.

Investing in these technologies is crucial for robust herd health and sustainable farming outcomes.
