Centuries of accounting history boil down to a simple truth: visibility equals control. To ensure your business isn't just surviving, but thriving financially, implement these foundational practices.
1. Reverse Your Formula (Profit First)
The traditional business formula is $Sales - Expenses = Profit$. The problem? Whatever is left over is usually zero.
• Flip it: Try calculating your financials as $Sales - Profit = Expenses$.
• The Action: Every time revenue hits your account, immediately move a fixed percentage (e.g., 5% or 10%) into a separate, non-negotiable "Profit Account." Force your business to run exclusively on the remaining balance. If you can't afford an expense out of what's left, you can't afford it.
