A can in your recycling bin today could be a new can on shelf in as little as 180 days.

That's the pace of the circular packaging system behind Orora's aluminium cans, where scrap from our own manufacturing is returned to mill partners and re-enters production. In FY25, our cans reached an average of 78% recycled content, moving toward a target of 80% by 2030.

To celebrate the milestone, our Decoration Centre of Excellence team worked closely with KAIJU B**r to reimagine their flagship can using Helio by Orora, our advanced digital printing technology.

✨ High-build detailing lifts the typography and logo
✨ Matte finish adds depth to the clouds and the monster's peace sign
✨ Every texture and 'easter egg', printed with precision

It's also KAIJU!'s first ever digitally printed can, a full-circle moment for the b**r that started their cans journey a decade ago.

A returnable bottle only works if the system around it works too.

Getting the loop right with Schulz Organic Dairy, rinsed, returned, washed and refilled again, is one half of a circular economy in action. The other half is knowing what happens once a bottle finally reaches the end of its working life. The glass doesn't go to waste. It can be crushed, remelted, and turned into new bottles with no loss of strength or clarity, a process it can go through again and again through our glass beneficiation process.

This bottle represents the first step in a much larger journey, and it's designed to work as a platform beyond Schulz alone. We're hoping it helps other dairy and beverage brands see what returnable glass could do for their own packaging.

Ever wondered how glass can be recycled and reused again and again? Here's what we mean by infinitely recyclable at Orora Glass in Gawler, SA.

At Orora, every glass bottle moves through a continuous circular journey, from raw materials and melting through to moulding, filling and consumers, before returning as recycled glass ready to become a new bottle.

Because recycled glass (cullet) melts at a lower temperature than raw materials, it can help reduce energy use during manufacturing while keeping glass in circulation.

Glass is one of the few packaging materials that can be reused many times over and then recycled without any loss in quality. That combination is exactly why Schulz Organic Dairy wanted a returnable glass bottle, and why they'd spent a long time looking for an Australian manufacturing partner to help build one.

Once we teamed up with Schulz, our team saw room to improve their current imported glass bottle design. This became the starting point for a bottle built specifically for the demands of a returnable system: repeated rinsing, refilling, and transportation.

Our design and manufacturing teams paid close attention to the details: a rounded profile for stability in the fridge, an easy-to-hold grip, and even glass distribution engineered for strength. Each bottle is designed to go through dozens of reuse cycles before it's eventually recycled.

The can end is one of the most frequently touched parts of any pack, so it has to work exactly right, every time.

It starts as raw aluminium, shaped and finished into a ring-pull tab that's simple to open by hand, yet secure enough to hold the internal pressure of a carbonated beverage. Every end is checked for precision under close inspection, then confirmed by hand before it ever reaches a filling line.

Beyond function, the can end is an often-underused branding asset. Coloured ends and laser-incised tabs turn that same component into shelf standout, supporting limited editions, seasonal campaigns and flavour variants.
