Geelong, we’re coming your way!

This October, Groupwork Centre associates Sarah Norton and Nancy Nuñez are heading to Geelong to run a one-day Facilitation Skills Essentials workshop.

If facilitating groups is part of your work, this is a chance to build your confidence, self-awareness and practical skills. You’ll explore real-world challenges including how to navigate tension, silence, strong personalities, competing views and complex group dynamics, as well as how to work with power in the room and balance task, process and relationships.

The workshop is part of the International Association of Facilitators Conference, but you don’t need to be attending the conference to take part. You can register for the workshop as a standalone day and get a taste of what Groupwork Centre is all about.

Leadership isn't defined by your position – it's created through the way you show up. Our refreshed Collaborative Leadership Training explores practical approaches to shared leadership within groups, helping leaders and changemakers distribute power, foster collective ownership and deepen group engagement.

Across three immersive, face-to-face days, you'll build the confidence and skills to facilitate meaningful participation, navigate complexity and lead collaborative change. This is followed by a half-day online Practice Circle to reflect on how it's landing in your own context. No previous Groupwork Centre training is required – this one's open to everyone.

We're noticing people often arrive at workshops frazzled, distracted and tired. First questions are often "When are the breaks?" "What time are we finishing?"

At Groupwork Centre, we draw on the calming power of nature to help people land in the moment and reconnect with themselves and nature. We bring nature in and where we can, we take the group outside, like last week.

We are thrilled to announce that Navigating Conflict: A Deep Dive for Facilitators is now available! This 2-day intensive builds on our alumni's previous training to dive into a topic that they have been asking about.

We will focus on recognising conflict, navigating power dynamics and making choices about when to intervene. We will also workshop the current challenges you are facing in participants' groups/workplace.

Politics doesn’t have to be about being adversarial. Last weekend, our associates Janet Rice and Steve Ray spent an excellent day with 19 members of the ACT Greens. Their keenness to learn was fantastic, and just as impressive was their dedication to strengthening the overall culture of their party by building skills and commitment to collaboration, consensus and high-quality facilitation. What an awesome day! Our associates Matt Wicking and Janet Rice recently facilitated a team day for the incredible folks at Environmental Justice Australia. They spent half the day doing a deep dive into core values – a session heavily inspired by an online workshop that our associate Jim Buckell designed and delivered for our team last year. We love seeing great frameworks get passed on!

We then introduced people to the Community of Selves – the Groupwork self-awareness model – which was well appreciated as something that would help them in their work. From there, they got stuck into some really positive problem-solving, with cross-organisational teams working to explore some tricky issues the organisation is figuring out how best to address.

It is always a privilege to hold space for organisations doing such important work. Thanks, EJA, for having us!
