A few weeks ago, we held a lunchtime talk that explored how the most impactful design solutions emerge when you centre real people in the project.

Now you can watch the recording on our website!

This session takes you behind the scenes of Good Design Australia awarded projects to reveal how inclusive design practices are reshaping industries and communities.

We offer a rare window into the methodologies, challenges, and breakthroughs that define truly inclusive design. Whether you’re a designer, strategist, policy writer, program designer or changemaker, you’ll get actionable insights for putting human-centred approaches at the heart of your work.

Thank you to the brilliant speakers:
Tess Whelan, Project Advisor, Our Watch
Dr. Léna Molnar, Research and Evaluation Lead, Women with Disabilities Victoria
Dr Ben Shelton, PhD, Student Systems and Business Enablement, University of Newcastle
Cordelia Prangley, User Experience Specialist, University of Newcastle

Traditional funding models ask for guaranteed results.

But what if the most effective approaches to preventing violence against women haven’t been tried yet?

Christine Gregory heads up the Our Watch Innovation Lab, which is backing community organisations to experiment, fail, learn, and discover what actually creates change. She shares why this matters—and how partnership will be the key to ending violence against women.

What Is Human-Centred AI?

How to use emerging technology to create more impactful government services and policy.

In a time of rapid technological change, we have a critical opportunity to ensure that these powerful tools amplify our capacity for good, support human agency, and contribute positively to society and the planet.

A human-centred approach is crucial for government and other high-impact services where decisions directly affect people’s lives.

What we will cover:
- What is human-centred AI: How we prioritise human needs, values, and wellbeing
- Trends and signals: Looking at where AI is making a difference for the better.
- Practicing Human-Centred AI (HCAI): The art of designing AI solutions that benefit people.

We have been awarded the prestigious 2025 Good Design Team of the Year Award, marking our 45th Good Design Australia Award across our thirteen-year history.

The Australian Good Design Team of the Year Award is bestowed annually to a design team who consistently performs at the highest level in the Australian Good Design Awards and has made a positive and tangible impact in establishing and maintaining a design-led culture within their organisation. The award recognises organisations that are design-led from the CEO down, have cultivated a culture of creativity and leadership, and demonstrate consistent recognition in credible design award programs.

“From the very early days, we’ve been fortunate to attract talented people who want to create impact through their work,” says Damon O’Sullivan, CEO and Co-Founder at Today. “That shared purpose has built a culture of trust and engagement that becomes the foundation for great creative work. Year after year, our team raises the bar higher—the level of energy, care, and courage we see is genuinely rare.”

Since its founding, Today has been driven by a clear purpose: to achieve positive social and environmental impact using design as a lever for change. This focus has shaped an award-winning portfolio across the impact sector, working with organisations like Our Watch, Women with Disabilities Victoria, University of Newcastle, the National AI Centre, and government agencies across Australia to tackle critical challenges through human-centred design.

Adam Morris, Co-Founder and Chief Design Officer at Today, adds: “Design isn’t just what we do—it’s how we work, how we collaborate, and how we show up for the communities we serve. Building a team culture that lives these values every day has been fundamental to our ability to deliver meaningful impact.”

“But we know our clients are the heroes on this journey. They are on the front-line of meeting community needs, fighting the good fight every day. They are an extension of our team, and should also feel that this award is for them.”

Winning in the Design Research category, this project was centred around stories of equity students’ digital experience.

For first-time students, complex university administration systems can be an overwhelming and degree-altering experience, particularly if you’re relocating from a remote area or have a low socioeconomic status. Through mixed-method research and student-centred storytelling, we imagined a desired future—where students feel connected, supported and in control of their studies.

From libraries to student help centres, we captured honest, in-the-moment accounts of stress, confusion, and system failures. These insights highlighted how overwhelming the transition to university can be, especially for students already facing barriers.

The research culminated in Digital Daze, a microsite featuring 20 unique student stories alongside eight key insights. Our final report included strategic recommendations prioritised by their potential to improve student retention and success.

We’ve won two 2025 Awards! We’re so excited to be celebrating our project with and , which has won in the Social Impact category!

The ‘Changing the landscape’ campaign content transforms a complex framework on preventing violence against women with disabilities into accessible, multi-format resources. Co-designed with women with lived experience, the educational materials empower disability support and violence prevention specialists to address social and systemic challenges faced by women with disabilities.

Today, Women with Disabilities Victoria and Our Watch reimagined traditional resource development by placing women with disabilities in decision-making roles throughout the process.

Working alongside specialist suppliers Studios, The Mind Room, and Scope (Aust), they developed a comprehensive suite of accessible formats: explainer and case study videos with captions, audio descriptions and Auslan translations; podcast-style audio series; posters; checklists; social media templates; and Plain English and Easy Read resources.

Their trauma-informed approach allowed women to authentically share their experiences, while their commitment to accessibility transformed the entire project management approach, ensuring all documentation and processes were inclusive by default.

The project drove an almost 850% increase in resource page views a month after launch, and an impressive 300% year-on-year growth in users four months on, and won the 2024 National Disability Services ‘Excellence in Innovation’ Award.

By genuinely centring over 29 women with lived experience as decision-makers rather than just consultants, Today has established new standards for inclusive resource development.

“It was a pleasure working Our Watch and WDV and I think we should all be incredibly proud of the results”— Renay Barker-Mulholland; video talent, First Nations, disability and gender justice advocate on the launch of the resources.
