Do you know how you influence others — and how effective it actually is?

The 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫™ (𝐈𝐒𝐈) is one of the most powerful tools for helping leaders and teams understand their natural influence approach and how to flex it when it matters most.

Our self-paced certification enables you to bring the ISI into your own coaching, training, and leadership development work.

Here's how it works:
✅ Register and get started at a time that suits you
✅ Complete online learning modules at your own pace
✅ Join a one-to-one coaching call with one of our certified master trainers

Once certified, you'll have everything you need to administer the assessment, generate reports, and run workshops with your clients or teams — plus ongoing support from your coach.

Perfect for HR professionals, L&D practitioners, coaches, and leaders who want to add a research-backed influence tool to their toolkit.

What if helping younger people find hope is one of the most important things leaders can do right now?

New research shows a really interesting generational pattern: younger Australians are significantly more likely to be feeling overwhelmed, scared and panicked about global events than their older colleagues.

And it makes complete sense when you think about it.

They have less life experience to draw on. They've grown up with social media delivering a constant feed of world events directly to their pockets. And the last few years have genuinely been a lot.

This isn't about resilience deficits or generational weakness, it's about context. It's also an invitation for leaders to step into one of the most meaningful parts of their role.

That's where optimism as an EI competency shines. We're not talking about toxic positivity, or "everything is fine!" plastered over real difficulties, but a genuine, grounded belief that challenges can be navigated. Along with a willingness to hold that belief, especially when others are finding it hard to access it themselves.

The research reminds us that older generations, who have lived through more, tend to see current challenges as part of a broader journey rather than the whole story. That perspective is a gift and it's one that can be shared.

Optimism is contagious. When we model it authentically, by acknowledging what's hard while pointing toward what's possible, we give the young people around us a reason to keep going and a sense that the future is still worth building.

🌱 "This is challenging, and we've navigated challenges before."
🌱 "Here's what we can focus on."
🌱 "I believe in where we're headed."

Who in your world might need you to hold a little hope for them today?

We've been reading McCrindle's latest research on '𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢'𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘳' and ...

We've been reading McCrindle's latest research on '𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢'𝘴 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘳' and found this insight especially fascinating: 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲.

In other words, the stories we're running in our heads - about what's coming, how long it will last, or how bad it might get - are driving our decisions every single day. Whether we are aware of them or not.

That's just how humans work. It's also why 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 is a powerful skill for a leader to have in their toolkit.

Reality testing isn't about dismissing concern or pretending challenges don't exist. It's about asking: what do we actually know right now? It's the ability to see a situation clearly with open, grounded curiosity.

In practice, it might sound something like:
🔍 "Let's separate what we know from what we're assuming."
🔍 "What's actually within our control here?"
🔍 "Are we responding to the situation, or to our anxiety about it?"

Rather than shutting down the emotion, these questions create space for clearer, calmer thinking alongside it.

The leaders who help their teams navigate uncertainty well aren't the ones with all the answers, they're the ones who stay curious, stay grounded, and keep gently pointing back to solid ground.

What separates good leaders from truly great ones?

Often, it comes down to emotional intelligence.

When leaders develop EI, the impact flows throughout the entire organisation:
✅ Stronger team performance
✅ Higher engagement and motivation
✅ Better collaboration
✅ Reduced conflict and stress
✅ Greater innovation
✅ Improved employee retention

For HR professionals, EI is one of the most powerful levers you have for building a thriving workplace culture - and it's a skill that can absolutely be developed.

Higher education is such an interesting space to look at through an emotional intelligence lens.

This infographic from Multi-Health Systems Inc. (MHS) does not describe every individual working in higher education. It reflects average EQ-i 2.0 scores from an MHS sample of 1,502 people in the sector, benchmarked against global professional norms.

What stands out is the combination of higher Empathy, Social Responsibility and Self-Actualization alongside lower Self-Regard, Stress Tolerance and Assertiveness.

Taken together, that may suggest a workforce that is strongly 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬-𝐥𝐞𝐝; people who 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞, want to 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞, and 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 in what they do.

It may also raise some interesting questions.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡, 𝐝𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝?

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠, 𝐝𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬?

𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩, 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞?

Of course, these are broad averages, not individual truths. But they do offer a useful prompt for reflection.

The opportunity is not to judge this pattern, but to ask:
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 - 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞?
