It’s one of the biggest misconceptions I hear about carpet cleaning…. “Surely more water means it’s getting a deeper clean?”

Not necessarily.

When we professionally clean carpet, it isn’t the volume of water doing the heavy lifting. A successful clean comes down to understanding the fibre, chemistry, agitation, dwell time and extraction.

Think about washing anything in your home. Using more water doesn’t automatically make something cleaner. It’s about using the right process for what you’re trying to remove.

At Chem-Dry Metro, our Hot Carbonating Extraction process uses millions of microscopic carbonating bubbles to help loosen and lift soils from the carpet fibres.

We then use specialised equipment to agitate the carpet and extract the loosened soil and cleaning solution.

Because we don’t need to flood the carpet to achieve an effective clean, we use significantly less water than traditional steam cleaning methods.

And that has another very practical benefit:

Our carpets are typically dry in just 1–2 hours.

Less moisture means less disruption to your day and reduces the issues associated with leaving carpet excessively wet for extended periods.

After more than 20 years in this industry, one thing I’ve learnt is that good carpet cleaning isn’t about throwing more water or more chemical at a problem.

It’s about knowing exactly what the carpet needs, and just as importantly, what it doesn’t.

Don’t you just love it when your dog chews your paint brush and supplies? Our client in Melbourne’s Inner Western suburb of Kingsville, recently had that exact issue and she wasn’t a big fan. 🖌️🎨

Luckily we had previously given her advice on maintaining her wool rug and this time around she wasn’t tempted to try to remove it herself. This enabled us to achieve 100% stain removal success and she wasn’t tempted delighted!

Carpet specialised stain removal success after our regular client in Kew couldn’t resist temptation and had tried herself to remove it.

We always prefer you simply blot up excess with a white towel or some paper towel and then leave the expert stain removal to the professionals. This prevents bruising (breakage of fibres) from in correct techniques.

Here’s something I wish more people understood about carpet and rugs.

Your carpet and rugs don’t just sit on the floor. They collect what everyday life brings into your home.

Dust, fine soil, hair, skin cells, pollen and other particulates can settle into the fibres rather than continually circulating around the room.

And that’s actually one of the benefits of carpet, provided those accumulated soils are regularly removed.

A good vacuum cleaner is your first line of defence, which is why I’m a big advocate for regular, thorough vacuuming. But even the best household vacuum has its limitations.

Over time, fine particles and soils work their way deeper into the carpet pile where vacuuming alone may not remove them.

That’s where professional cleaning comes in.
