Two battery-electric HiLux vehicles are now operating at our Goonyella Riverside Mine in Queensland, supported by dedicated charging infrastructure built through a huge team effort.

From concept to charging station, this project has been powered by a lot of hard work and collaboration across site.

Meet Ankata 🦎(pronounced AHN-guh-dha)

Chosen by the Kokatha people through a community-led naming process, Ankata means bearded dragon and is the new name for our Oak Dam exploration project.

Located in South Australia, Ankata is one of the most significant copper discoveries globally in recent years.

⚡ From trial to real-world operations.

BHP and Toyota Australia are expanding our collaboration with the deployment of two Battery Electric HiLux vehicles and dedicated charging infrastructure at Goonyella Riverside Mine in Queensland.

While the vehicles are an exciting milestone, the bigger story is what it takes to run them in a working mine: the infrastructure, operational capability and workforce readiness needed to operate safely and effectively at scale.

The deployment builds on the industry-first Battery Electric HiLux trial announced in 2024 and is part of a broader program of electrification initiatives across our operations.
