Selling my desk! And my first proper end to end DIY project. This was a real labour of love. I bought it off a wonderful older lady who told me it was her dad’s - an artist and graphic design teacher. When we got it out of storage we found 1950s pencils still in their packaging.

It’s a beautiful desk, originally made in WA around 100 years ago they think.

Selling on FB marketplace. Collection from North Warrandyte. I love it but need more space in my little office.

Where do YOU sit on this?

I made this graphic (full transparency: using an AI tool) based on the infamous Fear & Greed index (created by CNN used to show current market sentiment, measuring whether fear or greed is driving investor decisions). It’s for part of my presentation in today’s monthly AI Chat - a group of curious and creative small business owners who come together monthly to discuss how they’re using AI, how they’re feeling about AI, new and different AI tools and how to rectify it all with their values and ethics.

There is SUCH a spectrum of feelings and uses when it comes to AI. On one hand you have the incredible work it’s capable of doing when it comes to cancer research and treatment, and even locating animals and insects thought to have been on the edge of extinction.

Then on the flip side there’s the end of humanity, horrific child-related digital abuse and cyber warfare we cannot even imagine yet.

I know myself I can flip between wanting to go back in time and shut the whole thing down (alongside the internet and social media) and being absolutely terrified for the state of the world to come and the future my kids will endure …and also I can feel excited about what’s possible in connecting communities and enabling people without resource to create things they could never have dreamt of.

I work with a range of business creatives, some adamant they will never use AI (despite it being used already in so many normal activities i.e. supermarkets, hospitals, airports) and some other creatives who are becoming super users and teaching me the latest technologies.

I know this post is likely to get some backlash, this is where we’re at right now. But I also know it’s worth pausing to ask, where are YOU at? How are you feeling? What’s the sentiment at your workplace or business?

And if you don’t feel comfortable sharing publicly, send me a DM. I’m genuinely curious about this.

The graphic in this post was generated by an AI tool. The caption is written 100% by me, a human.

Ah! Half sold out already, which is kind of wild.

I’m hosting two events as part of Melbourne Design Week and would love to see you there. Both take place Monday 18th May 2026.

The first is a live evening panel: How good design can change the world.

We’ll be talking about design as more than aesthetics. How it builds trust, connection, and real impact.

I’ll be joined by Dhiren Das , Laura Thompson and Lou Dyer in .

The second is a live online workshop: How designers can stay human in the age of AI.

A practical session on using AI as a tool without losing your voice, your values or the reason people choose to work with you in the first place.

Both are happening Monday 18th May as part of Melbourne Design Week.

If you’ve been thinking about coming, now is probably the time to book.

Tickets are in the link in my bio or (panel) mydailybusiness.com/mdw and (workshop) mydailybusiness.com/human

Retail is TOUGH right now. You’re not imagining it.

These 5 ideas from Shelley Panton, an experienced retailer, potter and founder of in our first interview of the Right Now Series are worth holding onto:

🎤 Think of your inventory like your fridge. Keep the fresh, clear out what’s on the turn.

🎤 Stop discounting everything. Train your customer to value, not wait.

🎤 Use the quiet time to get organised. This is where resilience is built.

🎤 Stay consistent. If you say you’re open, be open.

🎤 Focus on what you CAN control.

Simple, but definitely not easy.

❤️Save this for when things feel heavy.

❤️ Share it with someone in who needs it.

This is the first interview in our Right Now series - chats with people from different industries and expertise on what can help right now.

Ep 612 of the podcast has the full conversation. Out today.

I started this business thinking I’d give it a year and see if I could make it work.

10 years later here are. Anyone in business will tell you it’s a never ending learning experience.

So here are 5 of the top lessons I’ve learned (sometimes again and again and again!).

What’s been one of your biggest?

2016. Gosh. What a MASSIVE year.

The year I stepped away from corporate and launched my own business from a desk (my husband made thanks JR) that felt equal parts terrifying and exhilarating. The year I chose time over titles, flexibility over certainty, and being present over being busy.

It was river swims and mid-week adventures with my beautiful child. Taking him to the NGV on a weekday because I could. Running workshops. Flying to Sydney to speak at Curvy (and connecting with the brilliant IRL). Guest lecturing at RMIT for the first time and realising I had something worth sharing. Launching a sold-out event with the awesome at VIVID, having friends over for cheese and chats, completing another 10km run, planning dads 80th midweek with mum, visiting Tasmania on a whim, saying yes to all the opportunities and thinking, maybe this life - where work is just a part of it and I have time for loved ones - could really work.

It was also heartbreak. A pregnancy so deeply wanted, and a loss that stayed with me quietly, even as everything else kept moving. Saying a sudden goodbye to my husband’s Aunty Joyce, who was such a huge influence in our lives and such an inspiration to me as a woman.

And it was hosting my first full, extended family Christmas for 20+ people. Doing all the cooking so Mum didn’t have to. Not knowing then that it would be our last Christmas with her.

Looking back, 2016 wasn’t just the start of a business. It was the beginning of a life built with more intention, more courage, and more room for what truly mattered.

Some years change everything.
This was one of them.

Three weeks until January 26.

I am really proud to be a supporter of Clothing The Gaps’ Not A Date To Celebrate campaign.

Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with founders, Laura Thompson and Sarah Sheridan, on the about why this date continues to cause deep pain and trauma for First Nations people.

Let’s be clear. We all want a date we can celebrate being Australian. Nobody is saying that should be taken away. We are saying it needs to be a date that does not hurt.

If you want to learn more and be part of the change, head to clothingthegaps.com.au and click Impact, then January 26. There are generous, practical resources to help you understand, share and take action. There’s also a section about potential dates we could all celebrate outside of January 26.

If you are First Nations and this time is heavy, these resources are for you, with the intention of easing emotional labour. Support is also available via 13YARN on 13 92 76.

Clothing The Gaps is so close to reaching their goal of 100,000 petition signatures for the Not a Date to Celebrate campaign. You can sign via the link in bio or at clothingthegaps.com.au.

Brands can also sign on as supporters for this campaign and stand alongside more than 100 other brands, including .get.it .club.co and so many more.

Have the conversations. Share the resources. Take action. 🖤💛❤️
