The Victorian Marine and Coastal Council (VMaCC) and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) have warned that rising sea levels and storm surges could cost Victoria $442 billion in economic losses by 2100.

Inner-city Melbourne suburbs Southbank, Docklands and Port Melbourne have the highest level of exposed buildings, with a combined $19 billion in Total Technical Insurance Premium (TTIP) cost estimated by 2100.

VMaCC chair Anthony Boxshall says the report highlights how important investing today is, versus the long term risk and cost associated with climate change.

“Spending on adaptation over the next two decades could help reduce future risk and save significantly on the estimates of future costs.”

Congratulations to Ashley Kamien for celebrating 6 years with us here at Sigma Exec!

Our longest standing team member, Ash has been with us since almost the beginning. We’re not sure how he’s put up with Jackie and Sean, but he gets points for surviving this long! Seriously though, Ashley has been the mainstay of our specialist insurance team, instrumental in the growth and success of our offering to lawyers and clients alike.

Ashley’s superpower is connecting the right lawyers with the right career opportunities. His collaborative approach to helping people is what we love most about him. Ash is not job focussed, he’s career focussed and he really cares about the people he partners with.

Always up for a chat (or debate), you can set your watch on Ash – coffee at 9am and 1pm, lunch at midday and a daily tale about his pup Mr Darcy or the latest AFL gossip! The backbone of the Sigma team, we’re grateful for your dedication and loyalty and can’t wait to celebrate with you tonight at the EOFY dinner.

Happy Anniversary Dani Ptasznik!

3 whirlwind years as part of the Sigma crew. We normally wouldn’t thank the covid-19 pandemic for much, but we’re grateful that it brought you home to us from New York! We didn’t even get to meet Dani in person until about 6 months in.

Since then, Dani has become the banter specialist in the team, keeping the guys in line with her superb come backs and, in a short space of time, has become an integral member of our successful specialist construction team! Dani builds relationships like a champion and understands the ins and outs of what our clients need better than anyone.

We’re excited to continue to watch Dani kick her career goals, with her energy, enthusiasm and wit! We appreciate you Dani and love having you in the team!

If you were to look up the definition of tenacity in the dictionary, you’d simply find a picture of Nathan (NRA, Nate-dawg, Nate the Great). This guy is the most disciplined, fearless member of the team. He speaks to more lawyers each week than a politician on the campaign trail and still manages to provide an extraordinarily high level of service to each one!

His client’s rate his ability to have his finger on the market pulse (aka he knows all the latest goss), while managing to find the most obscure lawyer request in history! Nathan’s dedication to finding the best people for our clients is coupled with his prowess on the socials – he’ll make sure you have the latest construction related, career and leadership content and help you take that next step.

John Holland has been awarded the tender of the new $1.3 billion Toowoomba Hospital.

The new Hospital is the first of three new hospitals to be awarded under the Queensland Health and Hospitals Plan’s $9.78 billion Capacity Expansion Program. This program is set to provide an additional 118 beds across medical, surgical, maternity, coronary and intensive care units.

Queensland’s Minister for Mental Health, Health and Ambulance Services, Shannon Fentiman said the investment is delivering new hospitals and hospital beds right across the state.

The project is also set to create 3,120 jobs during construction, providing a significant boost for the local economy.

John Holland has been awarded the tender as Managing Contractor for Stage 1 of the new $1.3 billion Toowoomba Hospital.
