At Miglas, we work alongside architects, builders and homeowners from the early stages of a project through to completion. As architectural performance specialists, we help identify what the project needs, from thermal performance and airtightness to solar heat gain, acoustic requirements, bushfire resilience, security and design.

We work with architects to develop the right glazing specification, provide technical guidance and help ensure the chosen solution meets the project's performance requirements. Once construction begins, we support builders through delivery and installation, helping ensure the windows perform as designed.

Nestled amongst the rolling hills of South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula, this thoughtfully designed holiday home demonstrates how simplicity and passive design can create a home that is both beautiful and exceptionally comfortable. Positioned on a gentle north-facing slope overlooking panoramic rural and coastal landscapes, the compact residence was carefully planned to respond to its environment while minimising its impact on the land.

The home's simple rectangular form maximises northern views and natural solar access while providing protection from strong southerly winds. A cantilevered concrete slab acts as thermal mass, storing warmth from the winter sun and helping regulate indoor temperatures throughout the day. The slanted roof provides a wide shading eave on the north, while the angular wall panel of corrugated iron gives a dramatic aesthetic to the structure, and protects it from the western sun.

Spanning just 93 square metres, the home features open-plan living spaces, two bedrooms and a sheltered outdoor entertaining area that extends the living environment while remaining protected from the prevailing weather. The northern wall consists almost entirely of Miglas double glazed windows and sliding doors, which flood the interiors with natural light, frame uninterrupted views and form an integral part of the home's passive performance. During winter, the glazing allows solar heat to warm the concrete floor, while operable windows and strategically positioned openings create effective cross-ventilation during the warmer months.

Combining the natural warmth of timber interiors with the durability of aluminium exteriors, Miglas AliClad windows provide the thermal performance, energy efficiency and longevity required for high-performing Australian homes. This project is a beautiful example of how intelligent design, sustainable materials and high-performance glazing can work together to create a home that is comfortable, resilient and deeply connected to its landscape.
