On Monday 27th July 2026 at 2pm all of Australia is having an AusAlert test of mobile devices, phones, tablets, smartwatches.
It is a test of a new national warning system.
Your device will vibrate, turn on the screen to show the test message, and play a loud siren sound for 10 seconds.
It may be heard though hearing aids and cochlear implants.
If it is not safe for you to have a phone make loud sounds this is very important:
If you have a ‘secret phone’, a phone that only you know about, a phone to help keep you safe, maybe from domestic and family violence, a private phone you don’t want to be found, this alert could expose it:
At least an hour before 2pm:
Turn the phone off, or on ‘Aeroplane mode’ so no one hears and finds it.
Having phone on silent or do not disturb will not stop this alert from being heard.
Do this at least an hour before the test time for your state, and keep it like that for 24hours.
The alert will happen 2pm for VIC TAS NSW QLD
1:30PM for NT SA
12PM for WA
